We are back at Warner Park for the latest offering from the Caribbean Premier League on Thursday evening as the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots take on the St Lucia Stars in a match which is pretty big for the home side.
In a way St Kitts and Nevis are grateful to St Lucia and indeed Barbados for being so useless in this tournament as it means that they are likely to make the postseason. A win here will boost the chances of that. St Lucia are playing out time this season.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
I would imagine the home side will come out fully intent to do another job on St Lucia Stars here. I say that because they will be smarting at losing to Guyana in their first home match in a game they looked to have won from a fair distance out. They allowed Guyana back into the game though and they paid a heavy price. I’m not expecting them to let lightning strike twice.
We have seen throughout the competition that there is some real depth to the batting line up of the Patriots and the fact the openers are starting to get going is very much a positive. The negative is the troubles with the ball. With no Lamichhane they looked like cannon fodder at times in the previous match and that needs to change quickly.
St Lucia Stars
The season as a competitive entity is over for the St Lucia Stars so they can go out and have a bit of fun in their last two matches. In theory they could be a dangerous side because there is a heck of a lot of power in their top five and some heat in their bowling but they have struggled to put it all together in one complete performance for far too long.
I guess the big thing is whether St Lucia are strong enough in the minds to get themselves up to try and win their final two matches. I would hope they are motivated here after the ridiculous tonking that they took in the reverse meeting between the two sides. Their batsmen should enjoy this surface and their strength does lie with the willow.
Team News
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots might look to make a change to their bowling attack for this contest. Rassie van der Dussen has come into the squad and he could come into the side which would strengthen their batting even more.
You never truly know how a side is going to approach what is effectively a dead rubber for them but I would expect St Lucia Stars to name all of their big guns. The franchise as a whole need a win so they will call upon the senior players to get it.

Betting
The first match between these two was something of a shambles with St Lucia offering up the most pathetic batting display of the tournament but they succumbed largely to Sandeep Lamichhane and they won’t need to face him here so I’m expecting a better effort from the Stars which should in turn make for a better match.
With that in mind I think we are going to see some sixes hit here. We saw 16 sixes in not the highest scoring match in the first game here and there is no doubt in my mind that St Lucia carry more firepower than Guyana did. That should see over 15.5 sixes land especially if a Gayle, Lewis or Pollard go bonkers.
