The second part of the Caribbean Premier League double header on Saturday evening sees the St Lucia Stars playing their final home match of the campaign when they take on the Jamaica Tallawahs at the Darren Sammy Stadium.
Both these sides have fulfilled their home obligations already in this tournament, or will have done after this match in St Lucia’s case, and both have more losses on their ledger than they would like so the need for each to win is pretty obvious.
St Lucia Stars
The Stars kept their tournament alive with a win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors on Friday night and they know if they are to remain in the hunt for a play-off spot they have to win this match as well. I think it is fair to say we never truly know what to expect from St Lucia these days as they’ve shown brilliance and ordinary stuff in this tournament.
Strangely enough as the wicket has played tougher at the Darren Sammy Stadium they have generally performed better. It has certainly suited their bowlers much more. They were cannon fodder prior to that happening so you get the feeling they could be more competitive here. The change to their batting order in the last match worked well too.
Jamaica Tallawahs
After beginning the season really strongly the Jamaica Tallawahs will be ruing their trip to Florida where they lost all three matches although they probably still don’t quite know how they lost their last match. They will need to come out here and show that they haven’t lost any of their confidence after that effort as they are still in a pretty decent position if they can find a win here.
We know that Jamaica have plenty of power in their batting line up but they have to ensure there is no repeat of the last match when Rovman Powell and Andre Russell don’t get a bat. The Tallawahs have good variety in their bowling attack to so in theory they should be comfortable on any surface but they clearly have an issue when they play in Florida where their record is terrible.
Team News
You wouldn’t normally think there is a need for St Lucia Stars to change a winning combination but this match is less than 24hrs after the previous one for the Stars so there might be the odd set of heavy legs that could need resting.
Jamaica Tallawahs are going to be without Imad Wasim from here on in so we can expect Samuel Badree to remain in their side. Colin de Grandhomme has arrived to take Wasim’s place. Something will change to their batting line up as there is no way both Powell and Russell will sit out the innings again.

Betting
I’m happy to trust the Jamaica Tallawahs here. Defeats like the one they suffered last time out are often a huge wake up call to sides and there is no way they are going to make the self-inflicted errors they made in that game again here. St Lucia Stars have got to back up from the night before and that game was rain affected and started late anyway so I would not be at all surprised if they are flat here. Even if they are not Jamaica are the better side here. They bat much deeper and have a much more rounded bowling attack. Throw in their freshness and they are the bet in this one.
There are some stupid prices in the top Jamaica batsman market for this match but none of them are as bad as the 10/1 on David Miller to top score. He has scored 72* and 25* in his last two matches and looks to be hitting the ball very sweetly indeed. Miller used to play for the St Lucia side in their Zouks days so he’ll know this wicket well and which parts of the ground to target. We know St Lucia are rotten at the death which will suit Miller and we’ve seen Darren Bravo as a left hander take the Stars to the cleaners this season. I can’t avoid the 10/1 on Miller here.
