CPL 2018 – Trinbago Knight Riders vs Jamaica Tallawahs Betting Preview

The biggest party in sport is set to go up a level on Friday night when the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders take on the Jamaica Tallawahs in what should be a cracking contest at the Queen’s Park Oval.

Trinbago have already played a match in the tournament and got off to an emphatic winning start. Jamaica play their first match of the campaign here and will be looking to pull off something of an upset.

Trinbago Knight Riders

It is very rare that a side puts in a flawless performance in their opening match of a campaign but that is what the Trinbago Knight Riders did. To be fair the St Lucia Stars flattered to deceive massively in that match but a lot of that was down to the sustained pressure they were put under with the bat and the ball.

When you put one of these franchise sides together you generally want all of the big players to deliver the goods from the off and in the main they largely all did which will have been pleasing. They now need to back that up in this match because as we’ve seen in the past home advantage can be key in the overall picture.

Jamaica Tallawahs

There is every chance this could be the final of the tournament if the Jamaica Tallawahs live up to their billing heading into the tournament. They look powerful with the bat and they have the balance in their attack to be dangerous as the competition goes on as well. They will need to put it all together here however.

If the various spinners in this Jamaica side perform to their maximum then they have the ability to contain the defending champions but the real test will come when they bat because they look a batsman light until David Miller joins up with the squad. A 20 ball cameo from one of their West Indian stars can make up for that though.

Team News

I would be surprised if Trinbago Knight Riders make any changes after what was a perfect start for them. Only a late injury or illness is likely to make a different to their side I would suggest.

David Miller will be absent for the Jamaica Tallawahs so there will be a bit of pressure on the likes of Ross Taylor, Andre Russell and Rovman Powell in the middle order. Samuel Badree will make his debut against the team he used to play for.

Betting

I think this will be a really good contest and if Jamaica were at full strength they could have been worth chancing here but I suspect they might need the run before they fire on all cylinders. As I’ve done so far in this competition I’ll take it easy and just go with the one bet.

I took the performance of Dwayne Bravo in the first game that the Trinbago Knight Riders played and he covered it with ease. His line on that occasion was 41.5 and although he scored 77pts the line has only gone up one point to 42.5. He covered it with the ball alone on Wednesday but there is more to come from him with the bat and in the field. I think he covers it here too.
