CPL 2019 – Barbados Tridents vs Jamaica Tallawahs Tips and Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League remains at the Kensington Oval on Monday night when the Barbados Tridents take on the Jamaica Tallawahs in the second game of the season at the Bajan ground, one which is pretty big for both sides.

After Barbados were beaten in a rain affected match on Sunday evening, these two sides have now played 12 matches in the competition and have three wins between them. It goes without saying that both need to win here.

Barbados Tridents

You would have to say it was a pretty abject way to get their home leg of the tournament underway for the Barbados Tridents on Sunday evening. In fairness to them they looked already in the first few overs but once the spin got into them there was no answer, and they ended up folding tamely. I give them credit for battling hard when they had the ball in their hand but the damage had already been done by then.

That has been the story of their season in a lot of ways. They have not batted well for the most part in this tournament and while they have given it a good go with the ball, it hasn’t been enough very often. They are going to need to find ways to score some solid runs between now and the end of the competition else a wonderful chance to do some damage will go begging and they could yet miss out on the play-offs.

Jamaica Tallawahs

If it has been a bad season for the Barbados Tridents it has been a truly pathetic one for the Jamaica Tallawahs. They have one win from seven matches and are extremely fortunate that they are not already out of the tournament. The good thing for them is that they face the one side they have beaten in this match, which should act as a confidence boost for them heading in here, but it will take some effort to motivate themselves for this contest.

The equation is pretty simple for the Tallawahs now. They have to win the last three matches and hope that it is good enough but their future is out of their hands. If they lose this match then their season is officially done. If they are going to win the last three games they have to find a way to stem the blow of runs with the ball in their hands. They have been cannon fodder throughout the tournament and it hasn’t been good enough.

Team News

It was a surprise to many that Barbados Tridents chose not to play Joshua Bishop after his encouraging debut. On a slow track he could come into the side while Hayden Walsh is another looking for a recall.

The make up of the Jamaica Tallawahs bowling attack will be the focus here. Christopher Lamont could be an option even though he hasn’t had the best tournament thus far. George Worker could get a bigger involvement.

Betting

I fear a little bit for the Barbados Tridents in this match I have to be honest. They have looked very ordinary against good quality spin in this competition so far and Jamaica Tallawahs have a couple of tidy tweakers in their ranks even if their seamers have gone round the park. It was those spinners who piled on the misery for Barbados in the first meeting between these two sides and so in theory that should happen again here.

Jamaica have enough about them with the bat to get some sort of score on the board and given that bookmakers seem to have woken up to the fact that this isn’t the high scoring ground that it can be in international cricket, I think I would rather take the Tallawahs in this match than risk the runs under or anything like that. I can’t say I rate Jamaica that much but they know how to beat Barbados and should be backed to do it again.
