CPL 2019 – Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Lucia Zouks Tips and Betting Preview

The Caribbean Premier League treads new territory once again on Thursday night as it heads to Sabina Park for the clash between the Jamaica Tallawahs and the St Lucia Zouks, which is already a big encounter for both sides.

Jamaica Tallawahs have played a couple of matches on the road already and have been well beaten in both of them. The same thing has come the way of the St Lucia Zouks too so both teams will be eager for their first win here.

Jamaica Tallawahs

The loss for the Jamaica Tallawahs last time out might have been the most worrying one of the competition so far. I say that because there is no way on this earth that you shouldn’t be able to defend 241 regardless of the size of the ground, but especially when you have the international quality that the Tallawahs have in their bowling attack. Whether they thought they only had to go through the motions to win I’m not sure but they found out the hard way that was not the case.

The flip side of that is that their batting looks in good order but they have already lost a match chasing this season so it is hard to know what they can do to get their form into life if they are unable to bowl better. The Tallawahs will know if they are going to be a factor in the latter stages of this tournament they will have to take advantage of their home games so this becomes a big test for them.

St Lucia Zouks

It was a rocky road heading into the season for the St Lucia Zouks and nothing has really changed on the pitch either. Their bowling attack, which looks to be their strength, hasn’t really delivered the goods and their batting, their weakest part of the game, hasn’t been able to bail them out. The Zouks need a huge improvement in both departments if they are going to be competitive in the tournament.

The big worry for them is with the bat though. We’ve seen their home ground be good for batting but they don’t look to have a batting line up to capitalise on that so they are going to have to pick up points on the road to ease the pressure on them when they do get back home. That makes this is a big match for the Zouks so we should be getting an extremely competitive match here.

Team News

It remains to be seen if the Jamaica Tallawahs make any changes to their side but with Imran Khan in reserve it would be a surprise if they don’t make a switch to their bowling attack after it has just been carted for plenty.

St Lucia Zouks are going to be forced into a change as Thisara Perera has had his NOC revoked so he is no longer able to play. Colin de Grandhomme and Hardus Viljoen have arrived which should strengthen both departments of their team.

Betting

There were only two matches at Sabina Park last season but despite not being massively high scoring there were 23 sixes and 22 in them. That is the angle I’m going to attack this match with especially given what we saw in the last Jamaica Tallawahs match where they were plundered round the park after having some right good fun with the bat themselves.

The line for this one is 15.5 which looks on the low side based on those statistics mentioned above. The concern is that the batting depth of the St Lucia Zouks isn’t fantastic but even allowing for that they walloped six sixes in Guyana and eight more in Trinidad so they should come to the party against this attack which should see the power hitters on both sides combine for more than 15.5 sixes in this one.
