The Caribbean Premier League season returns to where it started on Monday night when the two best teams in the competition meet at the Queens Park Oval when the Trinbago Knight Riders take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
The Amazon Warriors head to Trinidad on top of the table and guaranteed to be in the first qualifier at the weekend and they will be joined in that match by the defending champions if Trinbago win this one.
Trinbago Knight Riders
It is probably a little extreme to call it a slump for the Trinbago Knight Riders but they have not won any of their last three matches which for them is something bordering a crisis. Usually we are expecting them to be extremely dominant at this stage of the competition. They now have a couple of home matches to get back to form and having won each of their home games so far we should expect better performances from Trinbago here.
Although winning away from home in this competition is never easy, the big surprise is how exposed their bowling attack has been in the last few matches. They have shipped 226, 216 and 192 in their last three completed bowling innings and if they are going to defend their title successfully that is something that needs to improve. While they have a very good batting line up, when the pressure is on you don’t want to be chasing 190.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
The Guyana Amazon Warriors have been near perfect so far this season. In terms of results they have been absolutely perfect as they have won all seven matches that they have played. This is the last away game of the regular season for them so if they win this there is every chance that they will do the clean sweep of the regular season. Clearly we’ve seen in the past that even were they to do that it doesn’t mean that they’ll win the title but it does set them out as the ones to beat.
The success of this unit has come through their bowlers. That has been a wonderful unit. They have restricted runs in almost all of their matches and they have done that through a plethora of wickets. Such has been the quality of their bowling attack we probably haven’t seen the very best of their batting line up. The simple fact is we’ve not needed to see them at their best but there is plenty of quality in it.
Team News
Trinbago Knight Riders could bring Chris Jordan into their ranks for this match to solidify their bowling which has struggled in recent times. His inclusion could be the only change to the side for the defending champions.
Guyama Amazon Warriors are probably going to continue their tactic of getting minutes into their squad players in case they are needed during the postseason. Qais Ahmad could be one such player to return to the side.
Betting
I’m expecting a pretty high scoring game here with plenty of boundaries. There is nothing on the match in terms of a competitive edge so the batsmen should come out looking to dent the confidence of the bowlers, although to be fair the Trinbago Knight Riders bowlers can’t be carrying too much of that at the present time anyway.
Matches at the Queen’s Park Oval this season have been relatively high scoring. The first one wasn’t but the last two saw boundary counts of 47 and 42 and that was when the home bowling attack was in decent form which is very much not the case here. We know the power that these two batting line ups have so I fancy over 41.5 boundaries to land.
