The second part of the Tuesday double header in the Caribbean Premier League sees the Jamaica Tallawahs taking on the Guyana Amazon Warriors in what is match two of the tournament at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad.
These two sides sit in the middle of the table with the Amazon Warriors two points better off than the Tallawahs, but Jamaica have played a match less so there is plenty to play for over the course of what should be an intriguing contest.
Jamaica Tallawahs
The fact that the Jamaica Tallawahs didn’t play on Sunday was probably a blessing in disguise for them as they will have needed the extra day to get over a very tame loss to the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the reverse match between these two sides on Saturday. At the halfway mark of that match they would have thought there was no way they could be beaten, but then they produced a stinker of a batting display, not always helped by some indifferent umpiring it must be said, and lost from a winning position.
That was two poor batting performances on the trot for the Tallawahs so that will start to become an issue if they are not careful, especially when you consider this is a side who only won two matches last season and therefore have only won three of their last 13 outings. The mad thing is with the power they have down the order, they only need to keep wickets in hand and rotate the strike early on to have themselves in a good position. The positive is that their bowling isn’t going around the park.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
The Guyana Amazon Warriors were involved in a match on Sunday having played on Saturday and predictably they lost. It is never easy to back up a performance the following day so I’m not going to worry too much about them losing, but the fact they put in another pretty ordinary batting display to go with the one which they delivered against the Tallawahs the night before is something that I’m becoming concerned with. With the exception of the two wonderful innings from Shimron Hetmyer, the Guyana batting hasn’t got started yet.
They will need it to if they are going to go all the way in this competition. In order for that to happen someone other than Hetmyer is going to need to score some runs. His output has diminished since the commentators piped up about his weight which isn’t ideal. The Guyana bowling attack is performing a lot better than I expected it to in recent matches but that is all in vain if nobody stands up with the bat in hand.

Key Men
Andre Russell showed all the power that he has with the bat in the last match between these two. He only bowled two overs in that match but if the Jamaica Tallawahs are going to revive their campaign they will need their talisman to be counted in all departments.
Keemo Paul is beginning to show his all-round credentials and if he can elevate his game to big levels with bat and ball he could be a key feature for the Guyana Amazon Warriors between now and whenever his season ends, starting here.
Betting
It is hard to have faith in either team here given their recent batting woes but I like the look of the Jamaica Tallawahs here. I can’t believe they are going to bat as badly as they did in their last match again. There is too much batting in their line up for that to happen, and if they do find more runs with the bat they have all bases covered with the ball and that could be significant on a pitch which will be being used for the first day of the competition.
Guyana Amazon Warriors have been no better than Jamaica with the bat in their last two outings and unlike Jamaica they don’t have the brutal power down the order that can get them out of trouble. The other issue the Warriors have is that they are a side build for slow and low surfaces with the ball in their hand so a fresh ground with a relatively new pitch might not help them a whole lot either. With that in mind I’ll side with the odds against on the Tallawahs here.
