It is the final day of the regular season in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday and the CPL 2020 first stage ends with a double header which starts with the leaders and the bottom team in the table going at each other when the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots face the Trinbago Knight Riders.
The Trinbago Knight Riders know whatever happens here they have a date with the Jamaica Tallawahs in the semi-final on Tuesday, while the Patriots are all too aware that their season ends after this contest.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
This is a season that has never really got going for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The reasons for that are all too obvious and have been repeatedly stated but we saw a struggling Barbados Tridents side come out of a slump with no pressure on them and play their best cricket and the Patriots will be hoping, and aiming to do exactly the here. On paper they have plenty of fireworks in their side and now it is about transferring that onto the field.
The bowling of the Patriots has been a concern throughout the competition and that isn’t going to change now but there is no reason why their batsmen can’t release the shackles and let their shots go. There were signs that they were about to do that against Jamaica in their previous match until the rain put paid to that so hopefully they can continue to adopt that approach and it pays dividends as it will be exciting to watch.
Trinbago Knight Riders
The Trinbago Knight Riders are now just one win away from completing the perfect regular season but having secured their place in the semi-final, they will not be wanting their run to end there. The Knight Riders continue to blaze away and not just beat sides but absolutely thrash them and with the tournament concluding on Thursday there isn’t really a lot of time for them to lose form so they are major favourites to win the title from here.
One of the reasons for that is that they have been the most convincing side in the tournament with the bat. That has been the case throughout the competition thus far with them being the only team who look capable of posting totals over 160 regularly. The other reason for their success has been the many different options they have with the ball and none of them have failed to deliver the goods when they have been called upon.

Key Men
There were signs that Chris Lynn was just beginning to find the middle of the bat in the previous game and he will be hoping to sign off with a big score before he heads back to Australia having not really contributed too much thus far.
Darren Bravo became the leading Trinbago Knight Riders batsman with his 50 against the Zouks on Saturday and he is now the third highest scorer in the competition. He’ll be looking to make the most of his good form here.
Betting
It is hard to bet on the outcome of the matches on Sunday because nobody is playing for anything other than professional pride and we are likely to see some much changed sides on show if Saturday was anything to go by so I’m a little reluctant to get involved in the match betting itself. Clearly it would take something special for Trinbago Knight Riders to lose this one but it only needs 10 overs of Chris Lynn teeing off and that could happen.
That leads me to thinking that the safer bet in this match is for over 12.5 sixes to land. There are plenty of big hitters in these two sides and while the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots haven’t always been on the money with the bat this term, there’s no reason why they can’t express themselves here. This pitch at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy has been so much better for batting and big hitting and although the first game between these two wasn’t high scoring, there were still 13 sixes in the match. With the potential for better from the Patriots with the bat here I like over 12.5 sixes.
