CPL 2021 – Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Tips and Betting Preview

The later part of the Caribbean Premier League double header on Wednesday sees the Jamaica Tallawahs and the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots continuing their CPL 2021 campaign when the two meet in a key match in the competition.

These two started Wednesday in second and first in the table so this is a great chance for both teams to cement their place in the top two and push for a place in the semi-finals, which as always is the primary aim for all teams in this competition.

Jamaica Tallawahs

The Jamaica Tallawahs go into this match with two wins and a defeat to their name. I think their win over the Barbados Royals on Tuesday evening means we can almost put to bed thoughts that might be overrated on the back of their opening win over the Saint Lucia Kings, who were downright terrible in that match. They showed good nerve to beat the Royals on Tuesday and if they can back that up with another victory here they will be in a very good position.

The good thing for the Tallawahs is that they are 2-1 for the season without their batting unit catching fire. They all scored runs in the opening match but anyone would with the buffet that was served up that afternoon. Slowly but surely one or two are starting to show form with the bat and if and when they all get into gear Jamaica are going to take some beating because they look to have all bases covered with the ball in hand.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The Jamaica Tallawahs are going well but not quite as well as the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. It is easy to put their start to the season down to home advantage, and while I’m sure that has helped them, we shouldn’t detract from the good cricket they have played and they fully deserve their unbeaten start over the course of their first three matches. The beauty of the Patriots’ wins so far is that they have won setting a score and chasing. I always think that is the background for a good side.

What I’ve also liked about the St Kitts and Nevis outfit is the fact that they have won matches they haven’t always been in front in. They were well behind in their opening match against the Barbados Royals but rather than panic and get themselves in a mess they stayed calm and played their way out of trouble. That is also the sign of a good team. In an ideal world their bowling will improve a touch but that might be splitting hairs a little.

Key Men

Kennar Lewis might look like a filthy slogger but if he is then he is doing it effectively at the minute and another big innings from him would set the innings up for Andre Russell to do his thing for the Jamaica Tallawahs so the opener is a key man here.

Dwayne Bravo has inspired with the bat for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots when called upon in this tournament and you would imagine the longer the tournament goes on he will come good with the ball too. If that happens here he’ll have the Patriots ahead of the game.

Betting

The pitch looked like it played a lot better in the first game on Wednesday than it did on Tuesday and I think that might play into the hands of a few runs being scored in this one. These two sides have scored plenty of runs in the competition to date with St Kitts and Nevis putting up scored of 175/5 and 168/4 among their two matches while the Tallawahs have a 255/5 on their resume and also scored 150 in victory on Tuesday evening.

Both teams have players down the order who can propel a total to something astronomic and they each have an opener who is in decent form as well so I’m expecting a high scoring match here. Other things to note with regards to that is the due that fell on Tuesday which will impact the bowlers here and both attacks have been got after in the tournament anyway. Both teams can play with a bit of freedom after the start they have made and so I like the idea of there being more than 307.5 runs in this one.
