The CPL 2022 season continues with another two matches on Thursday with the day match seeing the Guyana Amazon Warriors going up against the defending champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in what is a big match for the two teams.
The two sides have been scheduled for six matches in the tournament between them and they are yet to register a win. To be fair to them half of those games were rained off in St Kitts but it highlights a need to win here.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
The defending champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots were rewarded for winning the title last season by being offered the opportunity to be the first home team of the new campaign. Usually home advantage is a big thing in this competition but the Patriots couldn’t take advantage of it. They were very well beaten in their first two matches and then saw the other two washed out so they are already bang up against it for this term.
The Patriots’ bowling got taken to the cleaners in the two matches they were able to play and that certainly doesn’t bode well because they come to a ground where the wickets are even better for batting which spells trouble for St Kitts and Nevis if they don’t find massive improvement with the ball. They could probably do with some improvement with the bat as well because they didn’t exactly tear it up in that facet at home either.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
The Guyana Amazon Warriors have actually only got onto the field once in the tournament from the two matches they have had scheduled. They lost that to the Jamaica Tallawahs but they were a little disadvantaged in that their opponents in that match had already played a game in the competition. There will be a more level playing field about this contest and the Guyana outfit will be determined to make the most of that.
The Warriors were probably guilty of not quite getting the best out of their batting effort in the opening match but when you consider that they were only beaten with four balls to spare they didn’t need a huge amount more to be right in the game. If their top order can deliver the goods here the Warriors will be in business. One positive for the Guyana outfit here is this is a day game so their spinners won’t have any issues with the dew.

Key Players
There are places in West Indies’ World Cup squad up for grabs in this tournament and one player who could force his way in is Sherfane Rutherford. The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots player has a chance to push his claim here.
Given that the Patriots are lacking a little confidence if Paul Stirling can get the Guyana Amazon Warriors innings off to a good start then half of the battle could be won. His spin might also be handy with a lot of lefties in the St Kitts and Nevis side.
Betting
I’m going to continue on the sixes theme that I’ve been happy to ride over the opening week or so of the competition. We’ve seen the sixes fly on the first two matches on this ground and I don’t expect that to change this early as we’ll only be on the second pitch on the square for the double header on Thursday. We have a number of big hitters on show in this match and given that both teams need to win I expect the batters to come to the party here.
The sixes line for this one is much lower than we have seen at any other stage in that it is just 12.5 which looks way too low for me. This is a bigger ground than Warner Park was where these two played their opening matches but it isn’t that big that the boundaries can’t be reached. Importantly the first pitch on Wednesday was fantastic for batting and I don’t see any different coming along here. Hopefully the weather plays ball and we can see this line comfortably covered.
