Horse Racing – Sha Tin Sunday 31st May Tips and Betting Preview

As we eagerly await the return of racing to Britain on Monday, our attention remains on the international action over the course of Sunday. We will head into Europe for a bet later in the day but before then we head over to Hong Kong where there is a tasty Group 3 race at Sha Tin.

You can see our full preview and selection below.

Favourites

The big race on the card is the Group 3 handicap, the Lion Rock Trophy, over 1 mile with 11 runners going to post.

Southern Legend, with a handicap mark of 125, and Beauty Legacy, off 102, comes from different ends of the handicaps but are the two battling for favouritism.  The former is the best horse in the field, underlined when winning the Group 1 Champions Mile last time out but failed in handicap company off such a lofty mark 4 starts back.  With a group of lower rated but progressive types elsewhere, there’s surely better value to be had.

Challengers

Beauty Legacy has the assistance of Joao Moreira who is battling it out for the jockey’s title but he’s out of the handicap & has never won at this trip.  This horse is priced based on jockey booking alone.

Behind Southern Legend last time up, Ka Ying Star reopposes here on better terms but was down the field last time in a handicap off this mark, finishing behind 3 of today’s rivals.  Of the others, like Beauty Legacy, there are 4 more out of the handicap.

Fast More Furious has some good handicap & was tough to dismiss but most of his best runs have come with the assistance of the likely champion jockey, Zac Purton, so there has to be question marks as to whether he can reproduce it with a different pilot aboard.

Betting

Instead, the selection is a horse he’s faced 3 times in the last 6 months in Harmony Victory.  He comes here off a short break but has been in top form, especially in top handicaps over this trip.  A dual Group 1 winner in Brazil, he came here & has raced in 7 handicaps over this trip with his form reading 2nd of a mark of 92, 3rd of 14 off 93, 1st of 11 off 93, 4th of 9 off 100 when finishing best of all & closing fast at the finish, 2nd of 14 off 101 and, his last 2 runs, winning well in a field of 11 off 105 & then just failing when 2nd of 11 off 110.  He races off 112 here.

Two starts back, he won by half a length but was value for more having twice got blocked off when making his challenge.  He could be considered unlucky last time out too when starting slowly, still in last off the home turn, but finished powerfully & may have got up had he had a clearer run.  Narrowly denied by a head, he is still improving and in a weakish Group 3, he looks sure to be in the shake up.
