The final day of the CPL 2022 regular season provides us with another double header of action and it starts with a key match in the morning as the St Lucia Kings take on the Jamaica Tallawahs in a match which will see the winner move into the top two ahead of the final game.
Were the winner to stay in second place then they would get two bites at the cherry of making the final but this season is that crazy that depending on the result of the match on Saturday night, the losers could miss out on the finals completely.
St Lucia Kings
The St Lucia Kings have already bungled one chance to get themselves into second place in the table when they failed to defend 194 against the Guyana Amazon Warriors last time out. They will be looking to make up for that here and give themselves another shot at the postseason after falling at the final hurdle last season. While a win here doesn’t guarantee second spot, it would at least give them a shot at it.
There were positives and negatives in that defeat to the Guyana Amazon Warriors last time out. The positive was that their batting delivered right through the innings and while the century for Faf du Plessis was the high point, they didn’t fade in the latter stages of the innings like they have done in the past. The negative was obviously their bowling but to be fair to them conditions were tough and a couple of Guyana players chanced their arm and hit the jackpot.
Jamaica Tallawahs
Early in the competition it looked like the Jamaica Tallawahs were going to cruise into the top two this season. They won their opening two matches but they didn’t just win them, they won them pretty emphatically and looked a really good team in the making. It hasn’t gone completely to plan since then as just two wins in the next seven matches have suggested but what has gone before doesn’t matter now. A win here and they could finish in the top two and get that second go at making the final if they need it.
One of the reasons why Jamaica have struggled since those opening two wins is that their batting hasn’t been delivering as one unit. They have been relying on individual innings and while they got one from Brandon King last time out, they could really do with two or three batters going big to put the sort of total on the board that would look daunting against their very good bowling attack. That attack will be tested here though.

Key Players
You get the impression that if the St Lucia Kings are going to win this match then they will need a contribution with the bat from David Wiese but also with the ball. If he can come out on top in both disciplines the Kings will be on their way.
Brandon King seems to love batting here. He has the highest score in CPL history which he made on this ground and he comes into this match off the back of another century in his last game here. If he gets in and gets going he could launch something big for the Jamaica Tallawahs.
Betting
The runs line for these matches are slowly creeping up but I still don’t think the 314.5 one for this match is high enough. St Lucia Kings matches have tended to be higher scoring than the others because they lack a mystery spinner so teams feel they can go after the bowling for the full 20 overs rather than some of the other teams who have a bowler who you can’t tale liberties against. Even allowing for Kings matches being high scoring, the only match of the five on this ground not to cover this run line was the first one which involved a St Kitts and Nevis Patriots side whose batting hasn’t turned up all tournament.
This line was covered when these two teams met in the reverse fixture. That was in St Lucia where the pitches were good but they were probably no better than the ones we have seen here in Guyana. These are two sides who bat pretty deep and who have openers in great form so they should be able to get off to good starts with the bat and then maintain that momentum. This feels a low line with the batting talent on show here.
