CPL 2023 – Jamaica Tallawahs vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Tips and Betting Preview

We have a double header of action in the Caribbean Premier League on Saturday with the bottom two teams in the CPL 2023 table opening the show when the Jamaica Tallawahs go up against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

The Patriots know that they are already out of contention in terms of qualifying for the top four but that possibility is very much alive for the Tallawahs so this is a huge game for the defending champions as they look to keep their title defence alive.

Jamaica Tallawahs

The Jamaica Tallawahs haven’t really got going this season. Even when they get themselves into good positions, like they did in the early stages of their match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors last time out, they stall and end up getting beat. That has left Jamaica with just two wins from their eight matches but if they win their last two they will be in the playoffs and will actually be heading into them in decent form, so all is not lost yet.

We are still waiting for a complete batting display from the Tallawahs in this tournament. They have largely resisted changing their batting unit, although they have altered their order around a little, but the time has come now to get the form players to the fore and to play with some freedom and put a score on the board. If they do that they have the credentials with the ball in these conditions to be a success.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have been terrible this season. They round out their campaign in this match and they do so with just the one win to their name so far. That did come in their previous match when they surprised the St Lucia Kings and they will be hoping to shock the champions and at least take some sort of positivity into the next season with them. They do at least have the assistance of being able to play pressure free.

The big problem for the Patriots is that they haven’t put together a complete batting display very often and when they have their bowlers haven’t been able to capitalise on it. It is no surprise that the one match they did manage to win was when they were chasing a score and you would imagine that they might be better served chasing here. If they do bat first they are looking for a couple of the top four to fire rather than just one man.

Key Players

The Jamaica Tallawahs were going great while Brandon King was at the crease last time out but they need his 50s to turn into 80s and above in order for them to get the sort of score they are looking for to win a game.

Andre Fletcher led the innings with assurance and brutal quality in the win over the St Lucia Kings last time out and if he can bat for a long time in this match he could lead them to the sort of score which will win matches.

Betting

I’m very tempted to back the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in this match but whether it is naïve or not I just think there will be a good performance from Jamaica Tallawahs at some point and it needs to come sooner rather than later else it will be too late. I’d also like slightly bigger on a side who aren’t playing for anything and who only have one win on their ledger this term. That leads me to heading towards the side markets.

Backing under on the run line has not proven profitable in this Guyana leg of the competition to date but in both matches the first innings was going absolutely nowhere until the dew set in and carnage ensued in the last five overs to turn a score into something meaningful. This is a day game though and so there will be no dew to worry about here. That should have spin right in the game but the slower balls and cutters will be easier for the seamers to bowl. The line here is 318.5 which is higher than the 313 runs accumulated when these two met on a much smaller Warner Park where the wicket is much better for batting than this one is. Both teams have a lot of batters out of form so I’ll chance the under finally landing here like it should have done in the previous game.

Back Under 318.5 runs for a 3/10 stake at 1.83 with Bet365
