Premier League 2023-24 – Saturday 16th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The Premier League comes back from the international break on Saturday when seven matches take place up and down the country as we start to see the league table settle down and the competition become a little more predictable.

The Saturday schedule is a familiar one with TV matches bookending proceedings with the other five games taking place in the traditional slot in between, on a day where the top four in the league are all in action.

Early Kick Off

The action begins at Molineux with the early kick off on Saturday afternoon when struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers play host to a Liverpool side who have started the season very well. It is well known that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is no fan of this 12.30pm kick off time so it will be interesting to see how his side are in this one. Wolves will be hoping to use home advantage to good use so this is an intriguing opener to the day.

3pm Matches

We have five matches in the usual slot including two teams who begin the day in the top four who meet at the London Stadium when West Ham United look to preserve their unbeaten record when they host the champions Manchester City who are the last remaining team with a perfect start to the season. Tottenham Hotspur begin the day in second place and they will be expected to pick up another three points when they welcome Sheffield United to London.

There is no shortage of doom and gloom over Manchester United at present and so all eyes will be on Old Trafford when they play host to Brighton and Hove Albion, who are days away from tasting European competition for the first time. Aston Villa will also be in Europe next week but before they begin their UEFA Europa Conference League group they welcome Crystal Palace to Selhurst Park. Fulham host a Luton Town side looking for their first top flight point in 31 years in the other game.

Late Game

The activities conclude at St James’ Park where a few days before returning to the Champions League, Newcastle United welcome Brentford to Tyneside. This is suddenly a key match for the Toon after a start to the season where they have lost three of their opening four matches and looked particularly poor at Brighton last time out. Brentford continue to impress even without Ivan Toney and they will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Betting

I’ll resume the Premier League campaign with the one bet which is for there to be goals at St James’ Park where I am really surprised given the start to the season for Newcastle United that we can get a 2.75 goal line for their clash with Brentford. Newcastle are yet to keep a clean sheet this term and could have conceded a load more than they have but for some incredible misses against them. Brentford haven’t been much better defensively so I’m expecting an open and entertaining game here.

Newcastle have scored five at home to Aston Villa while they should have scored plenty more than the one they did against Liverpool. Brentford have notched eight goals in their four matches and probably should have had more than that with some glaring misses on their behalf as well. Newcastle are clearly setting their stall out to look to overwhelm sides offensively at St James’ and that might suit the Brentford counterattack perfectly. The two Premier League matches between the two here have finished 3-3 and 5-1. I’m not sure we get six goals here but I do think we get enough to cover this line.
