CPL 2023 – St Kitts and Nevis Patriots vs Barbados Royals Tips and Betting Preview

The second half of the CPL 2023 double header on Saturday evening sees the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots looking to get their Caribbean Premier League season back on track when they take on the Barbados Royals.

The Patriots have failed to make any use of their opening two home matches in the competition and really need to win their last two else they face an uphill struggle to qualify. The Barbados Royals have a defeat and a washout to their name so far.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

There wasn’t anything to worry about for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots heading into the second of their four home matches last time out but there certainly is now that they have lost both games so far. That leaves them under real pressure to win the last two at Warner Park over the weekend else they are going to need to find a bunch of wins away from home which isn’t that easy in this competition. They need to stand up and be counted now.

The big problem that the Patriots have had in this tournament has been their batting. 156/9 and 132 all out are scores which just don’t cut it in this competition on this ground and then need to find something to get them up towards the 180 mark which will give them a chance of being competitive. It is hard to judge them with the ball because they are bowling on a pitch where there is nothing for the bowlers at the minute.

Barbados Royals

The Barbados Royals are really still getting their campaign up and running. They will be the last team to compete here at Warner Park and will be looking for a much better outcome than their two games in St Lucia yielded. They suffered a pretty tame loss and then a washout over in St Lucia so the beaten finalists of last year will be hoping to get their campaign up and running with a victory here ahead of their home leg to come.

The Royals will need to bat a whole lot better than they did in the one match which they have played to date. Nobody really took any responsibility in that innings and in the end it subsided way too easily. That was their only effort so far though so there is room for natural improvement with the bat. I think they’ll bowl better the longer the competition goes on as well because they have players coming and going throughout the event.

Key Players

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots really need Evin Lewis to set the tone at the beginning of their batting innings. He is the captain of the side so it is up to him to set the tempo for what is to come, on a ground we know isn’t big enough to contain him.

Rovman Powell didn’t have the best game in the Royals’ opening match. Some of his captaincy decisions left people scratching their heads and then when he had the bat in hand he was out for a duck within three balls. Barbados need a lot more from him.

Betting

I don’t think there is anything in either of these bowling units that is going to concern the opposing batting unit in this match and with both teams really needing to win I’m expecting the batters to look to go after the bowling here and ensure that if they do go down they do so with no regrets. That makes me think that we are in for a high scoring match and with the two sides we have on show I’m expecting the sixes to flow throughout.

The sixes line for this tournament seems to be stuck at 14.5 and to be fair, while the earlier game didn’t cover this line that had a dozen sixes in a match where two pretty decent bowling units were on show and the second innings score was just 113. St Kitts and Nevis hit 10 sixes in just 132 runs here on Thursday evening and there are loads of six hitters in the Barbados Royals ranks so I am expecting to see the sixes flow here.
