CSA T20 Challenge 2022 – Monday 7th February Matches Tips and Betting Preview

With Covid still a relevant thing in South Africa, the Mzansi Super League has been cancelled once again and a 2022 version of the CSA T20 Challenge will replace it instead. That begins on Monday with a double header of action.

There isn’t an outright market for this tournament anywhere but I’m cool with that as we saw at the Big Bash the impact Covid can have at short notice. The whole event will be shown live on Free Sports in the UK so we can keep tabs on this eight-team competition.

Western Province vs Boland Rocks (08.00)

The opening match of the competition sees the Western Province going up against the Boland Rocks in a clash between two sides who will be out to make up for losing in the quarter finals of the last domestic T20 competition.

In that tournament the Western Province conceded runs at a crazy rate and if that is a trend which continues here then they are going to struggle again when they come up against the better sides. Boland Rocks might not be the Titans, Knights or the Warriors, the three teams who I expect to contend the title in this competition, they did beat the Warriors in the previous campaign and only lost out in the quarter final by three runs. Western Province do get some key players back for this event such as George Linde but we often see the settled side go better in these things and that is Boland. I always prefer the better bowling side than the better batting one so I’ll take the Rocks at odds against.

Titans vs Warriors (12.30)

The other match on the day sees two of my perceived title contenders in action when the Titans take on the home side Warriors in what should be the better of the two matches on the day when you consider the stars on show in it.

When you think this is the home ground for the Warriors they look a massive price but I would have the Titans as my favourites to win the competition so I’m a little reluctant to take them on initially. With the likes of Dean Elgar, Marco Jansen, JJ Smuts, Junior Dala, Simon Harmer and Aaron Phangiso on show in this match there is a lot of star quality. I’m probably not going to take too much over the course of the first two days while we assess the strengths of the two sides and the conditions and things like that. I’ll leave this one alone and enjoy watching two of the better sides in the competition battle it out.
