The European Tour season ends on Sunday and both the DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai titles will be decided in what is shaping up to be a thrilling conclusion out in Dubai.
With 18 holes remaining in the tournament Andy Sullivan and Rory McIlroy have sprung away from the pack. Sullivan leads by one on 16 under with McIlroy looking to seal the Race to Dubai title from a position on 15 under.
With Justin Rose having an awful third round McIlroy now just needs to stay ahead of Danny Willett to win the Race to Dubai and be crowned as European number one once again but he’ll be aiming to crown the position in style with this tournament win. He’s now no bigger than 21/20 to win.
Sullivan has already won three times on tour this year but he hasn’t won anything that would rival this one should he pull it off on Sunday. You can get 11/4 on the Birmingham star landing a fourth title of the season.
Patrick Reed is three behind Sullivan as he looks to go one better than he managed last week when he was beaten in a playoff. The American is now 8/1 to win. Byeong-Hun An, one of our pre-tournament picks, and Emiliano Grillo are both still in the hunt on 12 under but both would need a monster final round to win. They are 20/1 and 25/1 respectively.
I’m prepared to take my chances with An and not get involved in the outright betting again. It might be that Sullivan and McIlroy go into a duel and cut their own throats and if so An could yet take advantage so my betting for Sunday will come in the form of the two balls.
The pairing that gets my attention immediately is the one between Victor Dubuisson and Soren Kjeldsen which goes out at 7am UK time.
Kjeldsen scored well on Saturday to post a five under 67 but a number of tees were up and the soft conditions played into his hands but this course will play its longest on Sunday and I’m expecting Kjeldsen to be found out. He only scored 71 and 70 on the opening two days and I expect him to resort to that sort of scoring.
Dubuisson has taken care of this course however it has been set up over the last three years and he often fires in a solid round of golf when he needs one on Sunday. He’s the kind of maverick who could make a real run on Sunday and launch himself right into the top five and see what happens.
Dubuisson shot a final round of 68 here 12 months ago and if he can shoot anything close to that on Sunday he should have far too much for the Dane in their pairing.
Back V.Dubuisson to beat S.Kjeldsen for a 4/10 stake at 1.91 with BetVictor
