England and India conclude their T20 series on Sunday when the two sides move from Birmingham to Nottingham for the third and final game. India have already won the series but there are ODIs to follow so momentum can be taken from this into those.
England will be smarting at losing the opening two matches of the series, particularly as they haven’t really been competitive in either of them. India will know they have them right where they want them and will be looking to keep their feet on the throat.
England
I don’t think anyone saw these two performances from England coming. It isn’t all their own doing, they have played a good opponent and are missing a couple of key parts of the line up who have been playing Test cricket but after the wave of positivity the Test team created over the last month, much more was expected from England in a format they are better suited at presently. They have one last chance to show what they can do here.
The big problem for England in this series so far has been the batting. They have lost a wicket in the first over of both innings and then haven’t really been able to get going from there. The surprising thing is that England have been better with the ball than we would have thought but even then they have allowed India to get away from them on both occasions. Sometimes there is an excuse with the schedule but all the players playing here have been in Vitality Blast action so they don’t have that to fall back on here.
India
I would imagine this series is going swimmingly for India. They would have thought they would play themselves into the series when you consider that five big players missed the opening game after the Test match so the fact they won that set things up nicely for themselves. They then dominated the second game despite a tough over in the early part of their batting innings and while they have the series won now they will want to build on this form heading into the T20 World Cup later in the year.
There are still concerns over this India side. I’m not convinced their batting is best balanced while at some point the form of Virat Kohli has to come under the microscope, especially now that he isn’t captain of the side. The real positive in this series has been the bowling with the new ball. This is a tough England side to contain and India have done it twice. If they can do it for a third time then you would imagine they’ll be challenging again.

Team News
Phil Salt is the only member of the England squad who hasn’t played in the series yet. If that changes here then you would imagine he comes in for Harry Brook but England might want to give their batting order another go to get things right. Richard Gleeson might not be cut out for matches in successive days so Tymal Mills could return.
India made five changes for the previous match and with the series won it will be interesting to see if they want to give some of the others a go. Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and Umran Malik head home after this game and might get an outing before they go on their way.
Betting
We saw in the Test match here a few weeks ago that the pitches at Trent Bridge are good for batting and the outfield is firm and incredibly fast. We also saw the impact of that newest stand on this ground too which I always mention when we have a game here. Jonny Bairstow ploughed ball after ball into there and it is such a short hit it is untrue. That makes me think that we are going to get a high scoring final game to finish the series with, especially when you consider there hasn’t been a match here for more than a week so the square should be in good order.
India have smashed the ball to the rope at will in this series and this England side are so good with the bat that they are going to come good eventually and it could well be here with no competitive pressure on the game. We saw what was the highest domestic T20 score until last night made here a few weeks ago and scores are generally very high on this ground. I expect that trend to continue and over 43.5 boundaries looks a good bet to me.
