It is the final day of the European Darts Open on Sunday with the eighth European Tour event drawing to a close in Leverkusen when the title will be won over the course of two more sessions of play.
As ever we have the last 16 of the tournament in the afternoon session and then the remainder of the event in the evening. Time restrictions will deny us a chance to look at the evening but we can get stuck into the afternoon.
First Four Matches
We begin with one of the few unseeded players who made it through to the final day of the tournament in Owen Bates. He goes up against The Masters champion Stephen Bunting for a place in the quarter final before Damon Heta looks to make it into the last eight when he takes on Chris Dobey. The third game of the afternoon sees Michael van Gerwen meeting Ryan Searle in one of the better matches in this round before we get to the halfway mark with the number two seed Dave Chisnall facing Kevin Doets.

Later Four Matches
We come out of the break with the one remaining German player left in the tournament taking to the stage when Martin Schindler meets Dirk van Duijvenbode before the pick of the second round matches take place when Michael Smith goes up against Peter Wright. Josh Rock will continue his quest for successive European Tour titles in the penultimate match of the session when he faces Ross Smith before two Dutch stars close out the afternoon as Raymond van Barneveld looks to follow up his win over Luke Humphries on Saturday when he faces Gian van Veen.
Betting
There is only one bet that I like over the course of the Sunday afternoon action and it comes fairly early on in the session when Damon Heta meets Chris Dobey in a match that for the life of me I can’t understand why Dobey is the favourite. I’ve mentioned in the past how for a player of his quality the Dobey record in these European Tour events is very poor indeed and although he came through on Saturday there wasn’t much that was impressive about it.
The same certainly can’t be said of Heta who averaged a shade under a ton in his Saturday match and he will be looking to go as deep as possible in this tournament to give him the ultimate confidence boost when he goes to the World Cup later in the week. The head-to-head is interesting here as Heta leads it 7-0 with two of those meetings on the European Tour in the past. There just isn’t enough going for Dobey for me to swerve Heta in this one.
