It is moving day at the European Masters on Friday as over the course of the three sessions of play in Furth the remaining 16 players will be whittled down to four and come the end of it we will have our semi-finalists in the first proper event of the season.
We’ve had a few surprises to get to the last 16 but in the main a lot of big names have made it through so the action should be very good throughout the day. The last 16 takes place in the morning and afternoon sessions while the quarter finals are in the evening. Time restrictions will deny us the chance to preview those but we’ll look at the last 16 here.
Morning Session
Four matches take place in the morning session and they will all be on the streamed tables from here on in which helps. Judd Trump will be the main attraction on the TV table for his match against the amateur Farakh Ajaib who is enjoying a career changing week. Barry Hawkins is the next highest ranked player on show. He has a date with the Gibraltar Open winner Robert Milkins who is playing nicely at the minute. Ryan Day is no stranger to going deep in events and he meets the exciting Chinese player Wu Yize while in the other match in this session Ali Carter goes up against David Grace who was in fine form in the previous round.

Afternoon Session
There are some big names on show in the afternoon session and the match the TV attention will be focused on is the one involving Kyren Wilson and Shaun Murphy, two class acts who could easily go all the way if they come out on top here. Mark Williams won the first main tournament of last season and he’ll hope to go a step closer to doing the same again this term when he meets Zhou Yuelong. Daniel Wells is another amateur who has done well to make it this far. His reward is a clash with Si Jiahui while in the other match Yan Bingtao will go up against Jamie Jones in what should be a very competitive contest.
Betting
Si Jiahui is one of my players to watch this season and I expect him to get the job done against Daniel Wells on Friday afternoon and do so with a bit to spare. Wells has done very well to get this far in the tournament and is certainly making the most of his chance given that he is only here as a top up having failed to get his card at Q-School earlier in the year. He went well enough in the Championship League and has now reached this stage here but nobody has really played well against him.
Wells is beginning to score well but nothing like the extent which Si can. The Chinese player will have seen his countryman Fan Zhengyi win this tournament as a complete outsider last season and so he will know that this is a chance to go very deep here. A win in this match will put five figures on his ranking and putting it simply Jiahui is the better player of the two. He has shown that in wins over Anthony McGill and Xiao Guodong this week and can demonstrate it again with an emphatic win on Friday.
