Fantasy Cycling – Fantasy Spring CyClassics 2017 – Game Preview

Fantasy Spring CyClassics 2017

Zweeler have a great new game – Fantasy Spring CyClassics 2017 starting soon. The game covers the 14 Spring Classics on the 2017 UCI Tour. Spring CyClassics 2017 game features a prize pool of 6,500 euros with a top prize of 619.64 euros. Entry into the game is 7 euros and you can enter as many times as you like.

The Spring CyClassics 2017 game starts on Saturday 25 February 2017 at 11:45 hours CET – so you will need to create your team before then.

To participate you need to create an account with Zweelerclick on the image if you don’t have an account already.

You will need to select 20 riders from the list provided. You have a budget of 205 million euros from which to buy your riders. The riders are priced based on their past results and expected performance in the 2017 races. Points are awarded based on the finishing position in each race. Some races score more points than others. See Zweeler for full game details.

To give us an idea of who is likely to do well, I have listed the 2016 winners from all 14 races that are included in this game. I have added some thoughts in brackets about some of the race winners.

Race Winners in 2016

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad – Greg Van Avermaet

Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne – Jesper Stuyven (unusual result as this is usually contested in a sprint finish not a solo breakaway).

Strade Bianche – Fabian Cancellera (now retired and often won by puncheurs).

Milano-Sanremo – Arnaud Demare (some questions about the validity of this win as it has been suggested rider may have held a car on the final climb to get back into contention).

Dwars door Vlaanderen – Jens Debusschere

Record Bank E3 Harelbeke – Michal Kwiatkowski

Gent-Wevelgem – Peter Sagan

Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders) – Peter Sagan

Scheldeprijs – Marcel Kittel

Paris-Roubaix – Mat Hayman

De Brabantse Pijl – Peter Vakoc

Amstel Gold Race – Enrico Gasparotto

La Flèche Wallonne – Alejandro Valverde

Liège-Bastogne-Liège – Wout Poels

I would suggest the 14 races will be won by riders from 3 categories:

  • Those win by the powerful riders who can sprint – Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Dwars door Vlaanderen, Gent-Wevelgem, Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders), Paris-Roubaix and De Brabantse Pijl;
  • Those won by the out and out sprinters – Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne, Milan-Sanremo and Scheldeprijs;
  • And those won by the Puncheurs – Strade Bianche, Record Bank E3 Harelbeke, Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

Selections for your team

I am not going to tell you which riders to select in this game! I will provide some suggestions of the types of riders to consider to have a balanced team. This will enable you to compete for points in each race and thus for the overall game win.

This is important when building out teams. I would include some of the pure sprinters in my team but not go overboard. My focus would be on getting a number of the top strong men and puncheurs into your team. Riders like a Peter Sagan will be competitive through the first 10 or 11 of these races (assuming he starts them all). Selecting him and some of the other 2016 race winners might enable you to score a lot of points early in the game.

You must be prepared for the final three races in the 14 race game. These are always won by riders who can accelerate quickly on the short steep climbs that make up those races profiles. The power riders and our sprinters have no chance of winning these races. Thus, you need to include a group of riders who can climb and challenge in these races. They will ensure that we collect points at the end of the competition and maybe enable us to jump into the payout positions!

I will name my team ParkerPeddler if you want to check on my progress.

Good luck!

Remember, I will be providing a betting preview for most of the 14 races included in this game. Please check back regularly to read my posts for those events.
