While France will be in action when the final matches in Group D of the FIFA World Cup is taking place, the more intriguing match might well be the one which doesn’t involve them as Australia and Denmark go at it in a huge game.
Assuming Tunisia don’t pull off a major upset against the French, Australia head into this one knowing that they only need a draw to go through. Denmark have to win this game and should Tunisia win the other one do so by at least the same amount as the Africans win by in order to progress.
Where to watch
This match will be shown on BBC 2 in the UK while the other one takes place on BBC 1. There is a shorter build-up for this one which begins at 2.45pm and kick off comes at 3pm.
Australia
It has already been a rollercoaster ride for Australia in this tournament but they have the chance to extend their stay in it. They lost their opening match against France but to their credit they didn’t sit back and look to keep the score down like some sides have done against the bigger nations in this tournament. They went for France and although it meant they poked the bear they were able to feel good about themselves going into their second game against Tunisia, one which they won to put their destiny in their own hands.
They now have that awkward position of not knowing whether to stick or twist and the two teams who have been in this situation before them have both ended up losing and been knocked out of the competition. The positive for Australia is they clearly have goals in them. The negative is that their defence looks like it is capable of giving up a number of chances which eventually you think will be their undoing against such a class outfit.
Denmark
This certainly hasn’t been the tournament that Denmark would have envisaged so far. They are yet to win a game and in truth they haven’t really played like they have been doing in Europe prior to this competition beginning. There is no doubt that they remain a decent side though and the time has come for them to show it. They know the equation for this match is a simple one. They have to win the game to make it through to the next phase.
The good thing for Denmark is they have been here before. They were in this exact position a year ago at the Euros when they had to beat Russia to make it out of their Euro 2020 group. They did that and ended up in the semi-final so they can draw on that experience. Denmark have to find a clinical edge to their play. In Christian Eriksen they have one of the most creative forces in world football but they need to find someone to convert those chances. If they do that they could easily extend their tournament life.

Team News
Ajdin Hrustic has been declared available from the start of the match but having looked rusty when he came on off the bench in the win over Tunisia he might not get a place in the starting XI. Nathanial Atkinson is being assessed ahead of the game.
Denmark have reported no new injury problems but they are expected to bring their captain Simon Kjaer back for what is a must-win game for them. Andreas Skov Olsen is another player who will be looking to return to the side.
Betting
I think we’re set up for goals in this match. The first goal in this one is going to completely change the dimension of the contest. If Australia get it then Denmark are going to have to further open up because they are going to need to score twice to stay alive. If Denmark get it when Australia are going to need to take their own risks because they will need to find the back of the net in order to remain in the tournament.
I do think both of these sides have goals in them. I don’t think Denmark will need to work particularly hard for their goals because Australia have given up a bunch of chances so far in the tournament but there is no shortage of forward options in this Australia side so if they do need a goal they will be able to make the changes needed to give themselves the best chance of getting it. An early goal could spark this into one of those crazy games and I like over 2.5 goals here.
