The European Qualifiers for the World Cup 2026 continue on Monday night and after a hugely dramatic evening of football in the Nations League on Sunday, we’re hoping for much more of the same here.
It is the night where England will look to continue what they hope will be a smooth passage through to America in 15 months but some other solid nations will be out to stake their claim for a place at the big dance too.
Monday’s fixtures are as follows: (7.45pm unless stated; UK TV in brackets)
Lithuania vs Finland (5pm)
Albania vs Andorra
Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Cyprus
England vs Latvia (ITV 1)
Poland vs Malta
San Marino vs Romania

Preview
All eyes in the UK will be on Wembley Stadium where England will look to follow up their solid if unspectacular win over Albania on Friday night when they host lowly Latvia in a game where Thomas Tuchel and his men will expected to pick up six points from six. That match comes after the evening begins in Kaunas where Lithuania will look to get their first points on the board when they play host to a Finland side who will be looking for successive wins after they opened up their campaign with a 1-0 win in Malta on Friday night.
Four other matches take place on the evening with Poland probably the best among them. They are another side looking for six points from six after their narrow win in Lithuania in their opening game. They host Malta while Bosnia & Herzegovina will be aiming for maximum points from the week when they host Cyprus. The other matches involve complete minnows as Andorra head away to Albania while San Marino play host to Romania.
Betting
This isn’t the most inspiring card ever known to man but there is one bet that catches my eye which is over 2.75 Asian goals in the match between Poland and Malta. If we are being honest, on a going day Poland could cover this total on their own and they will probably be eyeing up a few goals here to make up for the ones they didn’t get on Friday night when they scored just the one against Lithuania but had 24 shots and racked up an xG of 2.27.
It isn’t at that end of the pitch that I would have concerns for Poland it is at the back. A pretty ordinary Lithuania just had an xG of 0.75 against them while in the Nations League, they conceded two or more in four of their five games which included four goals in the two matches against a limited Scotland outfit while in Euro 2024 qualifying, Moldova scored in both matches against Poland and Estonia scored away to the Poles too. Malta probably aren’t free scoring but they come into this match off an outing where they created 1.85 xG and had 19 shots. This is a Malta outfit who in the last 12 months or so have scored twice against Slovenia and against Czech Republic so an away goal here wouldn’t be the biggest surprise so I like the over.
