The quarter final line up at the French Open will be finalised on Monday when the other half of the two singles draws plays down to the last eight stage on a packed day on the two main courts at Roland Garros.
In the men’s draw we saw the top four seeds in one half set up quarter finals against each other and the same could happen in the bottom half on Monday. We also have the women’s number one seed on show on another good looking schedule.
Day 8 Recap
We saw some excellent tennis on Sunday despite three of the men’s matches being won in straight sets. Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz were the players who won with plenty in hand while Rafael Nadal was taken to the limit by Felix Auger-Aliassime before coming through in a deciding set. In the women’s draw Coco Gauff and Leylah Fernandez showed what the youngsters are capable of as they made it through.
It was one of those days to forget for us from a betting standpoint. We only had the one bet which was for Aliaksandra Sasnovich to get the better of Martina Trevisan. Unfortunately the Belarusian lost in straight sets but having had set points in the opening set and then serving for the second set it could and should have been so much different. That was one which got away and means we could do with a response on Monday.
Philippe Chatrier Court
Two lower ranked seeded players get the action underway on the main court on Monday when Veronika Kudermetova takes on a Madison Keys who is enjoyed the red clay. The first men’s match on Chatrier follows them and it sees Holger Rune going up against Stefanos Tsitsipas before the world number one and emphatic favourite for the women’s title, Iga Swiatek, takes on the Chinese youngster Qinwen Zheng. The night session match on Monday sees the US Open champion Daniil Medvedev going up against the former winner of that title in Marin Cilic.

Suzanne Lenglen Court
Ticket holders on the Suzanne Lenglen Court continue to get excellent value for their money with another wonderful schedule of play on Monday. That all gets underway when Daria Kasatkina meets Camila Giorgi in what could be a feisty affair. The first men’s match on this court sees Casper Ruud going up against Hubert Hurkacz before Jessica Pegula will look to make the last eight of another Grand Slam. In order to do that she’ll need to overcome Irina Begu. The schedule on the second court closes with a cracking looking match between Andrey Rublev and Jannik Sinner.
Betting
I’m a little surprised that Jannik Sinner is the outsider to see off Andrey Rublev when you consider he has won both of the completed matches between the pair. He didn’t just win those matches but they were both on this surface too which should give the Italian plenty of belief and confidence going into this match. I get there is a suspicion that Sinner isn’t the fittest player going around but the fact he hasn’t been troubled in the tournament just yet should serve him well.
The same can’t really be said of Rublev who hasn’t looked completely comfortable in this tournament and who has dropped a set in every match. If that isn’t bad enough there is a strong feeling that conditions might go against the Russian by the time this match is played, especially if a couple of the prior games on this court were to go the distance. In a slow court affair you would have to make Sinner a favourite so the fact that we can get him as an outsider certainly appeals here.
