Horse Racing – Deauville – Sunday 31st May Tips and Betting Preview

After our breakfast time bet has run out in Hong Kong, the focus returns to Europe and while we wait for the British racing to come back on Monday, we will build up to that with another bet on France. Our form in France since racing has resumed there has been strong and we have a Listed race to get stuck into during the afternoon.

11 fillies line up for the Listed class Prix Des Lilas, a very competitive looking race over a mile.

You could make cases for almost all the runners but the current favourite is the Andre Fabre trained Bionic Woman.  She was 4th in the Prix Marcel Boussac at the end of last term but was disappointing behind French 1000 Guineas fancy Simeen on her reappearance 2 weeks ago.  If she strips fitter for that which is likely given the stable is coming into some sort of form, she’ll be in the mix.  However, ahead of her 2 weeks ago was Golden Crown so she cannot be left out of calculations.

Beaute Pour Toi won impressively on her debut 2 weeks but that was a maiden & this is a serious step up in class.  The 5/1 on offer looks skinny & you’d be banking on her potential rather than what she’s achieved on the track.  Shenouni and Secret Time could develop into decent 3 year olds but both are having their first run of the season & there’s sure to be other days for the pair.

Chorba is a massive danger.  She won on debut at the end of 2019 before only finishing 4th in a conditions race behind Shinning Ocean who has been supplemented for the French 2000 Guineas on Monday.  She never got a run and was repeatedly blocked off in the straight at Longchamp.  Again, however, the 5/1 looks short in such a tough race.

The selection is the bigger priced Passefontaine who is the only runner in the race yet to enter the winner’s enclosure but it’s hoped she’ll rectify that today.  She found trouble on debut on the all weather at Chantilly but finished well to finish a close 3rd before coming home one place better in another race on the sand, this time a 9 furlong Listed event back in March.

She was then stepped up to Group company, the Group 3 Prix Vanteaux at Longchamp on similar ground to this.   Drawn widest of all, she went into the lead and surely went off too quick.  However, she travelled as well as anything, was last off the bridle and was still in front a furlong out (ie, today’s distance) before fading late on to finish a relatively close up 7th.   With the ground and drop in trip in her favour as well as a positive jockey booking and the rail draw in 1 (on the straight track), she could be tough to pass if adopting similar tactics and rates a sold each way bet.

Tips

Back Passefontaine (e/w) for a 0.75/10 stake at 13.00 Bet365 (⅕ odds 1-3)
