Horse Racing – Doncaster Saturday 7th November Tips and Betting Preview

It is a huge day on the racing calendar on Saturday and although the main attention comes on the United States, we will get to that later but first we will focus on the final day of the flat racing season over in the UK.

There are five meetings in the UK on Saturday but the one we are focusing on is the final flat card of the campaign at Doncaster. We’ve had a brilliant season so far and we are looking to go out in style with bets in two races.

The final day of the flat season and this is a competitive 15 runner handicap over 7 furlongs where the favourite is Tomfre, a winner of his last 2 starts both on heavy ground.  Hard to dismiss in this sort of form but another rise in the weights and, with the ground not quite as deep, he looks worth opposing.  Molls Memory won really well last time out but, on efforts previous to that, she isn’t the most likely to follow up whilst Tranchee is uberly consistent but may be better at 6 furlongs.

Betting

The one I can’t get away from is Kynren, a horse who loves soft ground and is almost always better over this trip despite having been campaigned over shorter and further.  Dropped in mark to 102 after some good runs off higher marks (105 & 107), he looks well handicapped today.  3 starts ago, he was 2 lengths 5th in the Ayr Gold Cup off a 3lb higher mark and that looks pretty good form in the context of this race.  His last win was a year ago off a 1lb lower mark but his only start over this trip since was in pattern company.  Ben Curtis, who has ridden him for his 4 career wins, is on board too and you add that to his handicap starts over 7 furlong where his record reads 1-2-1 (the defeat being by a neck in a 26 runner race), it’s hard to find a reason why he won’t be involved in the finish.  With everything in his favour, he’s rated as a very solid bet.

Tips

Back Kynren (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 8.00 Boylesports BOG (⅕ odds 1-4)

The last big handicap of the season is the November Handicap & this looks as competitive as ever.  There are 23 going to post over this mile and a half & Ralph Beckett’s 4 year old Sam Cooke heads the market.  He’s lightly raced but is up in the weights & has been off the track for over 3 months so it’s worth looking elsewhere.  Kingbrook won a 3 year old handicap last time out but is now tackling his elders which he may find difficult, as well as a 6lb higher mark.  Surrey Pride is another 3 year old but I think this may just be a step too far whilst Eagle Court may just struggle with the extra 2 furlongs.  There are 2 I like in this.

Betting

Top weight is Euchen Glen & despite him racing off a career high mark, I can see him going very well here.  His form has taken a sharp upward curve in his last 4 starts & there’s no sign of that slowing down.  He won the Old Borough Cup over 2 furlongs further off a mark of 101 (goes off 109 here) & then progressed to finish 4th behind multiple Group 1 winner Addeybb.  He’s since won a pair of Group 3’s over this trip on very soft ground so, whilst he’s in such good heart, he must surely be expected to go well again with conditions in his favour.  Mulrennan is again on board & bids to round off a great season for his 7 year old.

On To Victory, from the yard of Alan King, is the second of our selections.  Back in 2017, he was 4th in the Melrose off 2lb higher than today’s mark so, on past form, he’s well handicapped.  Since then, he’s been lightly raced & has transferred to his current yard where he’s had just 3 flat starts.  All in this grade over a mark within 1lb of today’s mark, he’s finished in the places each time with form figures of 3-2-2, the most recent when the shock 50/1 winner got first run.  He’s only encountered soft ground 3 times in his career and has won two, finishing second on the other occasion.  With James Doyle again taking the ride, he looks sure to run his race & is considered good each way value in a race where bookies are paying 6 places.
