Horse Racing: Ebor Festival 2024 – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of the Ebor Festival takes place on the Knavesmire on Thursday as we have another book of races full of top class talent. After a good 10/1 winner on the opening day we’ll be looking to follow that up throughout the day.

The Yorkshire Oaks is the feature race on the second day of the meeting. We don’t have that one does as a great betting heat though. We did have two bets lined up but the second of those is now a non-runner so we’re left with the one for Thursday.

The racing is as tough as ever with my bet coming in the 22-runner maximum field Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes.   6 furlongs is the trip & if we pay any attention to yesterday, I think it will pay to side with those drawn low.  The market suggests this is between 3 with the favourite being the Irish trained Arizona Blaze.  He’s drawn low & has already won a Group race but that win saddles him with a 7lb penalty.  Whilst he looks the class act, it would be a great performance if he could land the spoils with such a penalty.  Maw Lam has similarly been running in Group company with her most notable performance coming when 3rd of 24 in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.  A repeat of that would see her go close.  An Outlaw’s Grace is not to be ruled out given he’s trained by Richard Hannon who’s almost made this race his own in the last 8 years but his draw in 13 puts me off a little.

Betting

Instead, I’m favouring last time out winner, Territorial Knight.  As that win was only in a novice race, he escapes a penalty which is a positive.  It may not have been the best race in the world but you can’t do more than win & in that 11 runner field, he won by almost 3 lengths with the 3rd horse finishing a further 11 lengths back in 3rd.  However you look at it, that’s a serious performance.   In his 3 runs, he’s improved run by run & I’m pretty confident this big field will suit him.   He’s got a nice low draw in 5 & I expect he’ll jump from the gates & take a prominent position, maybe even leading.   It’s well known that it’s not all that easy to make up ground at York so with the draw in his favour & his prominent style another positive, he might just take all the catching in this ultra competitive heat.

Tips

Back Territorial Knight (e/w) for a 1/10 stake at 12.00 Coral (⅕ odds 1-4)
