While much of the attention of the racing fraternity will be on Aintree on Saturday, there is an all-weather card at Lingfield and there is one race which has thrown up a bet for us at the meeting.
3.05 Lingfield: Class 4 Handicap
Preview
Heading away from the jumps, we have a 10 runner Class 4 handicap over 1 mile 2 furlongs. At the head of the market, we have 2 horses coming off recent wins in a lower grade but the step up & the higher marks will prove difficult to overcome.

The one I like, albeit from a wide draw, is the 4 year old Arctic Sea. His trainer has a well backed on Friday at Kempton & the jockey is in red hot form, so there’s no issue on that front. The horse himself has won 2 of his 9 career starts but has been noted as being capable of better on several occasions due to his tendency to pull. I think the sharp nature of Lingfield might suit his style & he’s likely to finishing off with gusto late on.
After winning a Class 5 handicap at Kempton & a Class 4 (off 3lb lower) at Chepstow, he’s got form figures of 7-2-5-6. He’s pulled hard on 3 of those occasions & on 1, he missed the break. On each occasion, he’s finished well so Lingfield is the perfect track. Owner-trained horses are also worthy of close attention & that’s another tick in the box. He’s been dropped 2lb in mark & has recorded RPRs above his revised mark on each of his last 3 runs.
If he settles well & gets a decent pace to chase, it will be hard to keep him out of the shake up.
