The Champions Trophy has been blown wide open over the last two days and on Friday the final set of group matches get underway when New Zealand take on Bangladesh in Cardiff.
One of these sides will extend their competition for at least 24hrs and will wait on the result of Saturday’s match while the other will be on the next plane out of the UK. It is a knockout match with a potential twist.
New Zealand
I guess you could say that New Zealand have every right to feel aggrieved in this tournament so far. They would most likely have won their opening match against Australia had the rain not arrived when it did and being deprived of a point from that match was made to look even worse when they offered little resistance against England.
That leaves New Zealand needing to win this match and rely on the other result going their way and if they are to win this they will need to bat the last 15 overs of their innings an awful lot better than they have done in their opening two matches. If they can do that they could yet keep their campaign alive.
Bangladesh
To be fair to Bangladesh they have probably surprised people in this tournament even though they should have played two and lost two. The rain arrived at the right time for them in their match with Australia last time out and that means if they can win this and win it well they will go through should England win on Saturday.
In order for them to win though they are going to have to bowl to the best of their ability. In a way the pitch could suit their attack but the ground dimensions may not so it will be interesting to see how they go about their bowling innings. If they were to bowl first things would get very intriguing indeed.
Team News
There probably isn’t a need for New Zealand to change in terms of personnel in this match they just need certain players they are picking to play a lot better.
It will be interesting to see if Bangladesh go with the same side in this match. They looked a batsman light at The Oval but they have a couple of batters who haven’t really contributed yet and they will need to perform here.

Betting
This should be an interesting match given the implications that are on it. New Zealand are favourites and I would agree with that but if the last couple of days have told us anything it is that there are no certainties in this competition so I’m swerving the match outcome.
I like the idea of there being more than 9.5 sixes in this match. The straight boundaries here are just too easy to find and while both innings might take a while to get to a position where the sixes flow in regular number even the odd hit down the ground will clear the rope. Both sides have plenty of hitters in their ranks so we should reach double figures in the six hitting department here.
