IPL 2018 – Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders Betting Preview

As with the other Sundays in the Indian Premier League we have two matches to enjoy over the course of this one with the first of them coming from the Wankhede Stadium as the Mumbai Indians take on the Kolkata Knight Riders.

These two meet for the first time this season and both go into the contest in decent enough form but for the home side and defending champions this is a must win match. Kolkata won’t want a defeat but they have slightly more room to move.

Mumbai Indians

After a dreadful beginning to the campaign the Mumbai Indians have won two of their last three matches and they are going to need to turn that form into something much more substantial if they are going to make it into the postseason. They have been here before as we keep on saying so they know it can be done but it is still a long shot.

The encouraging thing for the defending champions is the fact that their batting is starting to come together. There is no real set structure to their batting but that seems to fox their opposition as much as it does themselves. If their batting can continue to fire and their bowling continues to perform as it is don’t count Mumbai out just yet.

Kolkata Knight Riders

It hasn’t exactly been the most consistent campaign of all time for the Kolkata Knight Riders but they have won their last two matches going into this fixture so perhaps they are finding some consistency at long last. Their batting has generally been good for much of the season and now their bowling attack are beginning to deliver.

That might spell danger for the rest of the teams in this competition because this is a very powerful batting side so when their bowlers can restrict sides then it only takes one of them to come off to get them well on their way. It will be interesting to see if they can continue their good bowling form on what is a belting Wankhede wicket.

Team News

Unless there has been a late injury which hasn’t been determined then Mumbai Indians may well be unchanged from their victory last time out. If they do make a change it could see Ben Cutting miss out.

Unless Mitchell Johnson isn’t fit to keep playing as regular as Kolkata Knight Riders are I would expect them to be unchanged assuming Nitish Rana’s back spasm hasn’t cleared up. If Johnson doesn’t play against his former franchise then Tom Curran could replace him.

Betting

The Wankhede is another of those grounds where I’m reluctant to get involved on the match outcome because it can be a pain in the backside to defend in the second innings so without knowing the outcome of the toss betting is not easy.

There is one bet I like though which comes in the form of the sixes market where I believe a 15.5 line is far too low. These are two powerful sides playing on a good batting wicket with short boundaries in a place where the ball flies a long way. Lynn, Narine, Lewis, Russell, Cutting, Sharma and others all smack it a long way and I’m expecting to see more than 15.5 sixes here.
