IPL 2018 – Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Betting Preview

There is one match in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday and it comes from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai where the Mumbai Indians and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the last two winners of the tournament, meet for the second time this season.

The Sunrisers won a thriller in Hyderabad when Billy Stanlake hit the final ball for four which was one of five last over defeats that the Mumbai Indians have suffered. It would be nice if we get a game equally as exciting here.

Mumbai Indians

With five defeats in six matches the Mumbai Indians are not exactly in unchartered territory but even having been here before they must be starting to get a little concerned about their position. Defeat to the Rajasthan Royals at the weekend halted any momentum they may have picked up from their sole win this campaign.

If the defending champions are to put up a significant tilt at holding on to their title then their big players are going to need to step up and be counted. Rohit Sharma is averaging less than 30 and 94 of his 138 runs came in one innings while Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard both average less than 23. That has to change soon.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

In the early stages of the season it looked as though the Sunrisers Hyderabad were going to destroy all in front of them when they won their opening three matches but they have suffered back-to-back defeats now and could do with a performance and a result to halt their slide and regain that confidence and swagger of the start of the campaign.

The big concern is always their middle order and while each player in it has offered individual innings or a cameo from time to time we’ve not seen their entire batting unit fire as one yet which will disappoint them. If they can fire completely with the bat then their bowling attack is perfectly good enough to get the job done.

Team News

The Mumbai Indians may well be unchanged for this match despite losing their last match. It is hard to see where they can put out a stronger line up, they just need their star men to stand up and be counted.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have left Bhuvneshwar Kumar back at home to give him a rest so Sandeep Sharma will definitely come into the side. Kane Williamson has suggested that Shikhar Dhawan and Yusuf Pathan will be fit for the match.

Betting

There is a massive shortening of the odds going on with regards to the Mumbai Indians here but I’m not so sure they are the certainties that people are assuming they are just because Bhuvneshwar Kumar is missing.

His replacement, Sandeep Sharma has played in his place once this season and took 2/25 so it isn’t like he’s being replaced by a dud. From a Sunrisers Hyderabad point of view it is more important that Shikhar Dhawan plays and that looks likely to happen. He provides their batting order with a lot more class and with the quality still on show from the Sunrisers with the ball their odds have now drifted enough to be worth taking.
