Another week of action in the Indian Premier League begins in Chandigarh on Monday afternoon when the Kings XI Punjab take on the Delhi Capitals in a match which will see the winners move level with the Chennai Super Kings at the summit of the table.
Both these teams have three matches so far in their season and have won two of them so they have a good platform to build on and will be keen to win this one, to further set themselves up for a play-off push.
Kings XI Punjab
It has been a high scoring beginning to the season for the Kings XI Punjab but having won two of their three matches I’m sure they will not mind that. We all know they were fortunate to win their opening match and then after slipping up against the Kolkata Knight Riders, it is to their credit that they were able to see off the Mumbai Indians last time out.
When you look at the scorecards of their matches so far it is pretty obvious where they need to improve. That extra impetus is needed with the ball, although when you have Chris Gayle and David Miller in your batting line up I would guess you could be forgiven for thinking that any score is gettable especially in their home conditions which are excellent for batting.
Delhi Capitals
It has been a similar case for the Delhi Capitals as well. Had they not collapsed in their defeat to the Chennai Super Kings then they would have been involved in three high scoring contests and as with the Kings Xi, I don’t think too many people are too surprised with that given the amount of quality and power they have at their disposal with the bat.
The strength of this Delhi team is that four of their top five are Indian players, and exceptionally good ones at that. That means that they can use three of their overseas spots on all-rounders or top level bowling options and that will make them a dangerous side when they eventually get their combinations correct. If there is a criticism of the Capitals, it is that they haven’t done that yet.
Team News
Kings XI Punjab have issues with their seam attack but whether they have the personnel to make any significant changes that will help them remains to be seen. Ankit Rajpoot might be a decent option to utilise.
Delhi Capitals got closer to the right combination in their previous match and unless they decide to bring Axar Patel back against his former club then I would imagine they will be unchanged. The penny finally dropped to play Sandeep Lamichhane and he is expected to remain in the side.

Betting
I see no reason why we are not going to see another high scoring contest here. Both sides have been involved in a number of them already and the pitch here on Saturday looked like a belter and the outfield looked to be in fantastic order. Both sides have some bowlers who can be attacked too which is encouraging.
The power on show in these two sides is quite frightening and if any one of about eight batsmen get going we are going to see runs flow and scores surging and as a result of that we will also get a heck of a lot of boundaries. There were 45 boundaries here on Saturday with neither side making 180. I expect a few more runs here and a few more boundaries as a result.
