The second half of the double header in the Indian Premier League on Sunday comes from Bangalore where the Royal Challengers Bangalore will look to keep their campaign alive when they take on the leaders Chennai Super Kings.
These two opened up the season with one of the worst games of cricket you will ever see, albeit on an awful wicket, so hopefully they will give us a great contest here to make up for that one. Bangalore really need the win here.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Credit goes to the Royal Challengers Bangalore players for not completely giving up on their season. Sitting with a 1-7 record and with Andre Russell warming up and then hitting top speed in their last match it would have been easy to sack it off and lick their wounds, but they fought hard, got rid of Russell and went on to pick up a victory which keeps their feint hopes of extending their campaign alive.
That win will count for nothing though if they don’t follow that up here. The schedule certainly hasn’t done them any favours but one or two key men missed out last time out which might help them in that regard. With a decent batting order finally stumbled upon, if they can just hold their nerve with the ball there might be a consistent run of form to come from them.
Chennai Super Kings
There hasn’t been a lot of middle ground for the Chennai Super Kings this season. They have either been wonderful or pathetic and in their last match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad they were very much the latter. You wouldn’t think that one man would have such an effect on a franchise side, especially with the riches that are around in this tournament but the Super Kings missed MS Dhoni like you would never believe.
It wasn’t just the hole that Dhoni left in the middle order that hampered them it was his use off his bowlers and the general impact he has on the team in the field that was missing. The Super Kings either need him back or need a collective responsibility when he isn’t playing. It isn’t like they are short of leaders with plenty of captains of sides around the world in their ranks.
Team News
Royal Challengers Bangalore were non-committal on whether AB de Villiers will be fit for this match. He has a touch of concussion and it has only been 36hrs or so since their last match so it is unlikely he will play. Therefore they could be unchanged.
MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo have trained ahead of this match and Stephen Fleming confirmed that it would be how they pull up to whether they will feature here. You would think Dhoni would return immediately when fit while time can be taken over Bravo with Jadeja in good form.

Betting
Both these sides have shown their inconsistencies this season and a fragility to them so I am not sure I would want to be betting on the match outcome even if this match wasn’t at a ground where betting on the result before the toss is foolish. As it is though this isn’t a ground to bet at on the result so I’m off to the side markets for a bet once again.
On this ground the only real decision is often whether to play the sixes or the boundaries and at 43.5 I’m happy to play the boundaries. We know all about this ground and there is enough juice in this line for one of those big Kohli knocks where he hits everything on the floor rather than over the ropes. It also provides some scope for CSK to stall for a bit and it still be covered. There is plenty of power in both batting line ups and whether in fours or sixes I’ve got to think that this line will be covered nicely.
Tips
Back Over 43.5 boundaries for a 4/10 stake at 1.83 with William Hill
