IPL 2021 – Chennai Super Kings vs Rajasthan Royals Tips and Betting Preview

The Indian Premier League remains in Mumbai on Monday when the bottom two from last season meet as the Chennai Super Kings take on the Rajasthan Royals in a game which could give plenty of clues for the remainder of the season.

Both these sides have a win and a loss for the campaign so whoever wins this will be looking up for the next match or two while the losers will start to feel some pressure going into their following match of the campaign.

Chennai Super Kings

You get the feeling this is a big match for the Chennai Super Kings. They were awful last season and although they won their last match they were given more than a helping hand by the Punjab Kings who just weren’t at the races at any stage with the bat. Even then you could argue they made hard work of the run chase and although everything looks good on the scorecard, the reality of the run chase was completely different.

There are reasons to think that this Chennai side won’t be as bad as the last one. There were a couple of signs with the bat in both matches that they are looking to play a more modern, power game, and with the bat they are not using their experienced overseas stars as much, tending to focus on their younger Indian bowlers. This bodes well for them in the seasons to come but whether they can be competitive here remains to be seen.

Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals were within a few feet of winning a high scoring opening match against the Punjab Kings but they did manage to get off the mark for the season when they edged out the Delhi Capitals last time out. They weren’t massively convincing in that game either, but when you consider they lost one of their talismen in Ben Stokes in between the two games, it was a creditable effort to get over the line against a good side.

Rajasthan put in one of their better bowling performances in a while in that last game and if that is the quality they can deliver more often then there is reason to believe that with the power and the depth they have with the bat that this can be an extremely positive season. Doing it once is one thing, they have to repeat that again and again if they are going to become a side that pushes for the postseason.

Key Men

Moeen Ali has put in a couple of big performances with the bat and the ball so far in the tournament and you get the impression he is enjoying the role he is being given which sees him batting up the order and then bowling a few overs when they are in a good position.

Chris Morris was the hero for the Rajasthan Royals in their previous outing and you get the impression that if they are to win this match then he is going to have a pretty significant say in the contest. He is able to bowl at the beginning and the end of the innings and his batting was brutal against the Capitals.

Betting

This isn’t the easiest match to bet on because both teams have had a good game and a bad game and there is a real inconsistency to both so we don’t quite know what to expect I think it is fair to say. All we can really go on is the same vibes I went on for the Sunday match here which I got right to be a high scoring match. I just think those two weird matches on this ground were freak occurrences and I’m going with the belief this one will comply to the norm.

That then leaves us having to consider whether to take the boundaries, the sixes or the runs and on this occasion I’m going to side with the runs because I think that is the most likely to be covered first given that the boundaries are up at 44.5 for this one. The run line is only 332.5 and I think that can be covered without 45 boundaries, especially if there are a number of sixes which will inflate the scoring but not necessarily the boundaries. Both these sides bat very deep and I’m not convinced the bowling is up to much after the first couple of overs. If the openers lay the right platforms we should be going beyond 332.5 runs here.
