We have another double header of action in the Indian Premier League on Sunday with the first match of the two being the last game of the season at the Wankhede Stadium as the top two meet when the Chennai Super Kings go up against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The equation for these two is pretty simple. Whoever wins this match will depart Mumbai on top of the table and looking good for the postseason. The losers won’t be too badly placed but it is always nice to be top of the table.
Chennai Super Kings
When the Chennai Super Kings were overwhelmed in their opening match by the Delhi Capitals, it looked like this might be another season where a bunch of largely past it players would struggle to make an impression on the competition as with what happened last term in the UAE. To their credit, the Super Kings have bounced back with three successive victories and are playing modern T20 cricket, and doing it pretty well it has to be said.
The big thing for Chennai on these Mumbai wickets is they are a side who in the main have been able to take early wickets. This is a ground where the batsmen get their own way so if a doubt can be put into the opponents playing with freedom even for a couple of overs, it can all add up to the end result. The other thing the Super Kings have done is work out how deep they bat and started picking up the pace a lot earlier. Three wins on the bounce suggest they are doing it to good effect.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
This season could have gone one of two ways. After losing out in the play-offs in the UAE last term, they could have been licking their wounds and struggled out of the gate, or it could have hurt them enough to inspire them to go better this season and given that they have won all four of their matches in this campaign, it is fair to say they chose to take the latter option. If anything they are getting better as well which bodes well for them.
The key thing has been Bangalore looking at where they were weak last season which was after their top three were out, and rectified that with the signing of Glenn Maxwell who is having an excellent season. The other thing they did was inherit a little more depth to their bowling resources so that they aren’t relying on the same three or four men to get them through the competition. It is early days but Bangalore look set up with the best chance for this to finally be their year.

Key Men
The key to beating the Royal Challengers is to feast on their death bowling and get stuck into their top order with the ball in hand so it might be that Sam Curran is a big player for the yellow army here. He hits a clean ball down the order and can get the new ball to swing. Virat Kohli has issues against left arm seamers too.
Devdutt Paddikal came to the party in a big way in the last match when he blistered a brilliant century and if you are to beat the Chennai Super Kings you need to overcome the new ball spell of Deepak Chahar. The confident opener will be key in that battle.
Betting
I fancy we’ll see a fairly high scoring match here between two sides who are batting nicely and have plenty of depth within their batting ranks, while having some vulnerabilities with the ball at the same time. Both these sides piled on the runs in their previous match on this ground but they both conceded quite a few as well and with the pitches here in Mumbai nearly always good for batting I’m not expecting any different here.
The big decision is which bet to take with a high scoring match in mind. The runs line is up around 350 and the sixes line is pretty high too. Bangalore don’t actually hit a lot of sixes so I’m not interested in that and if there are going to be more than 350 runs then you would think there would be over 47.5 boundaries. This could land even if 350 runs aren’t scored if one team goes potty and the other doesn’t quite step up to the plate. 47.5 is probably about as high as I’d go on a boundaries line but I think we have the hitters to get us there here.
