IPL 2021 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals Tips and Betting Preview

The Indian Premier League remains in Dubai for the Monday offering which sees the Sunrisers Hyderabad continuing their IPL 2021 campaign when they take on a Rajasthan Royals side for whom this is a huge contest.

The Sunrisers can only get to 12 points if they win out from here on in and that won’t be making the postseason so this is all about the Royals, who will move into the top four with a win and then have their destiny in their own hands.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

We keep on saying that this has been a horrendous campaign for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and it has been. We say it with the thinking that it has to get better at some point but there are no signs of it. You couldn’t argue that they are getting worse because the bar was so low that probably wasn’t possible, but they certainly haven’t improved at any stage. Their season is over from a competitive point of view but if their aim is a bit of pride and respectability then they only need to look at the Chennai Super Kings last season to know it can happen.

That has to be the goal for the Sunrisers Hyderabad now – to win a few matches and take something into next season. If they then look at the Super Kings again they are riding high this term after finishing last season well so although the playoffs are out of reach now there is still something to play for. The Sunrisers camp will hope that their batsmen suddenly arrive at the party because their bowlers are delivering the goods but aren’t getting any assistance.

Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals were heavily beaten by the Delhi Capitals over the weekend. That in itself wasn’t a bad result because the Capitals look like one of the class acts in the competition, if not the best one, but the way they lost will disappoint them because they are better than what they showed. They looked to be if not in control of the match then they had it within reach until the death overs with the ball and then with the bat nobody could stay with Sanju Samson.

That was a bit more of a surprise when you consider how well they batted in their previous match against the Punjab Kings. The Royals did have to change a few things around for that clash with Delhi which probably didn’t help them but that batting effort was a little too tame for comfort and they’ll want to improve on it here. They need to get it right at the death as well. They got fortunate in their first game after the restart but a win here puts them in a good position so it certainly isn’t time to panic.

Key Men

Jason Holder was on the losing side in the previous match for the Sunrisers Hyderabad but he still performed so well that he got the man of the match. It will be interesting to see if he goes up the order in this one to give the innings a little more early impetus.

Sanju Samson showed all of his class in the defeat to the Delhi Capitals but none of his teammates could hang around long enough to have any joy. You get the feeling that if the Royals are to win this one their captain will have scored plenty of runs.

Betting

I think the prudent bet in this match is to play the under in the runs. I say that because neither side pulled up any trees in their last matches with the bat and one comes here completely out of form and has been lacking enough batsmen all season anyway in the Sunrisers Hyderabad, while the other is under a lot of pressure to win this match and might not play their best stuff in light of that, especially with the bat and particularly if they are chasing as happened on Saturday.

Rajasthan tend to bat quite deep but that wasn’t really the case on Saturday and if Chris Morris is ruled out again then there could be a bit of a long tail for the Royals which wouldn’t be ideal. Both bowling attacks are perfectly competent. Sunrisers’ is better than competent actually but a crack hot Delhi side could only get 154 against Rajasthan at the weekend. Obviously pitches are going to tire and this is the second match in succession in Dubai. It all points to under 318.5 runs to me.
