The Indian Premier League moves back to the DY Patil Stadium on Tuesday for the match between the Lucknow Super Giants and the Royal Challengers Bangalore as two teams who have made very good starts to the season collide.
Both these teams sit on eight points at this stage of the season so the winners will move level on points with the Gujarat Titans as they hit the halfway mark of the campaign. Losing won’t be a massive issue for whoever failed to come out on top but for momentum purposes both will be eager to win.
Lucknow Super Giants
After losing their opening match, the Lucknow Super Giants have won four of their last five and they probably should have won the one they lost as well so they will be feeling fairly good about things heading into what is a key clash in the competition in terms of the confidence and positivity they take into the second half of the campaign with them. Lucknow have won two matches chasing scores and two defending them and I always like that balance to a team.
The Super Giants have a very good batting unit and the key men within that line up are all in good form which is certainly no bat thing. That means they have offer up a settled side which is what all teams want. They also have bowlers who are very tough to get after and who can pick up wickets regularly to keep the flow of runs down. In their six matches to date only once have the Super Giants not taken five or more wickets which is a good effort from their bowlers.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
When you look at the Royal Challengers Bangalore you could be forgiven for thinking they are not going all that well. Since the opening match of the season their top order has barely scored a run and yet they have four wins from six matches. That is a testament to both their batting depth and the quality they have with the ball in hand. You would imagine with the class they have at the top of the order it is only a matter of time before they come good so things are looking fairly rosy for the RCB team.
The Royal Challengers hadn’t won a match when posting a total until their last game so they will be pleased to get that monkey off their back and that will give them a lot of confidence to take into the remainder of the season regardless of what happens here. The big question is whether the likes of Dinesh Karthik can keep bailing them out of trouble down the order and if he can’t is there someone else to stand up and be counted.

Key Players
Avesh Khan sits third on the wicket list for the season and if he can chop the Bangalore top order away then he will certainly have his side in front. He isn’t too bad at the other end of the innings though and that could be crucial.
Dinesh Karthik bats at seven in the Royal Challengers Bangalore side so to have 197 runs in six innings is both a positive for him and very much a negative for his team. Those runs have come in just 94 balls though so he is very much a danger man for his side.
Betting
The run line for this match is at 340.5 which based on what we’ve seen throughout the tournament is perfectly fair but this DY Patil Stadium hasn’t always followed the trend of being the highest scoring in the world. In fact, seven of the 10 matches on this ground have had fewer runs than this line and of the three which went over one was a day game and another involved the Punjab Kings who go after absolutely everything so they probably shouldn’t be used in a balanced form guide.
Half of the 12 matches these two teams have played have also failed to cover this line and when you consider that most of the ones which have gone over it have been at other grounds where the runs come easier I think the under is the bet here. Both teams can take time to get going with the bat and they both have attacks which should match up well to the opposition. Importantly both are decent enough with the new ball and at the death so I’ll take under 340.5 runs here.
