IPL 2023 – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians Tips and Betting Preview

Two teams who have suddenly found some form meet in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday when the Sunrisers Hyderabad host the Mumbai Indians in the one IPL 2023 offering taking place on the day.

These two teams both lost their opening two matches in their campaign but they have rebounded nicely to win their next two and that means the winner here will go level on points with Lucknow Super Giants in second place.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

This looked like it was going to be another ominous campaign for the Sunrisers Hyderabad when they lost their opening two matches. They could probably be excused the first defeat as heavy as it was because they were without their South African players. The second one would have worried them but credit must go to the think tank of Tom Moody and Brian Lara because they pushed Harry Brook up to open the batting and the team haven’t looked back since.

What that move has done is as well as solve a weakness in this Hyderabad setup, allows them to use more of their better options in the middle of the batting order and the result of that has been scores of 145/2 in 17.1 overs and 228/4. By using Brook as an opener it has meant that the Sunrisers can balance the side with Marco Jansen in the middle order. He has been key with the ball in the powerplay and suddenly Hyderabad look a more than competitive outfit.

Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians were beaten in their opening two matches of the season but this happens so regularly with them that few really get concerned by it. It was slightly different this term because they were unable to recover from a poor start to the previous campaign, but normality has soon resumed and Mumbai are back to looking like the dangerous side we expected them to be when assessing the teams prior to the campaign.

The big thing for the Mumbai Indians in their last match was that Suryakumar Yadav and Tim David looked to come back to form. When the Indians go well in this competition it is when their batting puts fear into the opposition bowlers and those two do it more than anyone in the tournament so them coming back to form is big. The other thing is their bowlers were able to keep the opposition in check in the opening 10 overs which is crucial too.

Key Players

You can score quickly in this tournament but when you make 100s from the opening spot then you announce yourself as a key player and Hary Brook will now be targeted and it will be interesting to see how he handles the extra attention.

Suryakumar Yadav can destroy an attack to the same tune that AB de Villiers could in the past and when he is on form and gets himself in he is very hard to get rid of. He only made 43 off 25 last time out but the signs were there that he is coming to the boil.

Betting

With both sides encouraged by a couple of wins in their last two matches we should get a really entertaining match here. The key for both is that both batting units are beginning to fire nicely and as a result of that runs are flowing. I wouldn’t say either bowling attack has hit their straps yet. That is largely down to injuries or late arrivals to the tournament but the other factor in why the bowlers have struggled is the pitches have been really good.

A final factor in that is because teams can basically just take a bowler out after their bowling innings and play an extra out and out batter so teams are batting much deeper and on decent wickets with a number of short boundaries the outcome is runs. I expect plenty of runs here but I actually think the boundaries is the better bet with the line at 43.5. The last match here in Hyderabad wasn’t particularly high scoring with 143/9 playing 145/2 but there were still 48 boundaries in that contest. When you consider that Mumbai bring the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Tilak Varma and Tim David to the party I expect plenty more boundaries here.
