India drew first blood in their two match T20 series with Ireland in Dublin on Wednesday and on Friday they will look to give themselves the ultimate boost heading into the matches to come against England by taking the second game too.
Ireland were undone by spin in the opener but will know a little more of what they can expected in this match so they will be confident of delivering a much stronger performance in this one as they look to level the series.
Ireland
To be fair to Ireland this was always going to be a very tough test. You would think that for Ireland to be as competitive as they would have wanted to be in it there would need to be a little bit in the wicket but that was never going to happen with their board wanting to maintain good acquaintance with their Indian counterparts.
With that in mind they put up a spirited show in the first game. There were plenty of positives to come out of it. They were not bowled out which suggests they have some batting depth and they finished very well with the ball but they were savaged by the Indian openers and had no answer to their spinners.
India
For a first competitive hit on their tour I’m sure India will have been pleased with their performance in the opening match. There is a lot more to come from them over the next couple of months I think it is fair to say although we may not see it here as they are expected to make a host of changes. Whether that weakens them any remains to be seen.
You get the feeling that if India are to enjoy a successful tour of this part of the world that their spinners are going to be key so it will be massive for them to have been in the wickets early on. The other thing they will need to do is bat deep and they certainly did that in their first game. Virat Kohli barely got to the crease so there is plenty more to come from them.
Team News
Ireland may choose to bring Test captain William Porterfield back into their side to get them off to a flyer with the bat. I wouldn’t anticipate too many changes to the bowling attack other than maybe Joshua Little getting an outing.
India are set to give a number of their players who didn’t play in the opening match the chance to shine in this one so we can expect the likes of Umesh Yadav, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik to come into their side.

Betting
I think given what we saw in the opening match we need to go to the side markets for a bet in this one. I say that because although they were game opposition, were Ireland to bat first in this match then the chance for a number of bets to land would not be there and if you took the unders on a lot of lines then if India bat first you’re probably cooked too.
With that in mind I’ll go for the highest individual score to be more than 67.5. We saw both Indian openers cover this line in the first match and if they bat first you would expect one of their power packed batting line up to cash in but Ireland had someone get 60 which could easily be a bigger score and if they put up a score in the 140 area that would still be enough for an Indian to cover the line if no Irishman does.
I’ll also take Virat Kohli to be the top Indian batsman. He came in down the order in the first game and faced two balls before being dismissed so I expect him in a lot higher here and to make a sizeable impact on a good batting wicket against an attack that is there to be got at. I would expect both Indian openers to be rested in which case Kohli could even open here. He’s the class act in this line up and at 4/1 he must be backed here.
