LV County Championship 2022 – Monday 26th September Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The LV County Championship season comes to a close this week when the final round of matches begin on Monday. All 18 counties are on show on a week where the relegation and promotion issues will be determined.

We already know that Surrey will be the champions and their match at Lancashire gets the TV treatment. The other games, many of which carry significance, can all be watched on the various home live streams.

Division One

Old Trafford is the venue for the match between third placed Lancashire and the champions Surrey which will be live on TV for the four days. The important games lie elsewhere though. Warwickshire have given up the county title but if they want to be in the top flight for a chance to win it back next season they have to beat Hampshire at Edgbaston. Even that will be in vein if other results go against them. One of those would be Kent when they host Somerset at Canterbury. Kent need 11 points to guarantee their survival. Yorkshire aren’t yet safe either. They need 10 points to guarantee staying up but you would imagine they will get them at home to an already relegated Gloucestershire. Essex go to Northamptonshire in the other match.

Division Two

Three go for two promotion spots in Division Two this week. Nottinghamshire need seven points to be promoted and 16 points to win the title. They have Stuart Broad back for their clash against Durham at Trent Bridge. Middlesex are the other team in control of their own destiny. They need 16 points from their trip to New Road to face Worcestershire while Glamorgan are hoping for a slip up from one of the top two. They head to Sussex needing maximum points or as many as they can get to give them a chance of sneaking into the top two. Derbyshire and Leicestershire finish their season against each other in Derby.

Betting

Kent had an excellent win over Hampshire last week and now they get Zak Crawley and Joe Denly back to strengthen that side which should make them tough to beat this week. Kent need to win the game to guarantee that they stay up this season and will be glad that Somerset are already safe and not playing for anything hugely significant. Somerset will make the right noises about wanting to win and climb the table but after a long season it might be hard to use that as motivation.

Somerset had a solid win over Northamptonshire last week but their intensity went when it was confirmed that they were safe and it is a similar situation for Somerset here. Somerset have lost Imad ul Haq since last week and if Kent can keep Craig Overton relatively quiet with the ball and Tom Abell the same with the bat they might find there isn’t a lot else to worry about. Kent gain players for this week while Somerset have lost a big one so at the prices I think the home side are overpriced here.
