LV= County Championship 2023 – Tuesday 25th July Matches Tips and Betting Preview

There is one round of matches in the LV= County Championship before the Metro Bank One Day Cup gets underway next week. They get underway on Tuesday and it is a big week for a number of sides chasing success.

The Ashes concludes at the end of the week so although the Championship season is building to a nice conclusion there is no TV coverage of these games. Thankfully the county streams will have us covered throughout the week.

Division One

The defending champions Surrey continue to lead the way in the top flight but their lead is narrowing by the week. They will head to Taunton on Tuesday looking to stay top of the table when they go up against a Somerset side who denied them a chance of Vitality Blast success earlier in the month. The two teams closest to Surrey in the table at the beginning of the week also do battle when Hampshire entertain Essex at the Ageas Bowl in a clash you’ve got to think the losers will see their title chances go up in smoke. At the other end of the table things are starting to look bleak for Northamptonshire and they will look to give themselves a semblance of something to cling onto when they head to Old Trafford to take on Lancashire. Nottinghamshire and Kent sit directly above the relegation line but one of them will see their plight worsen when they meet at Trent Bridge while in the other game second from bottom Middlesex head to Edgbaston to face Warwickshire.

Division Two

Two matches get underway in the second division on Tuesday and the runaway leaders Durham are one of the four teams on show. They begin the week with a 54 point advantage at the top of the table and with their closest challengers not in action they will be looking to extend that gap when they head to Scarborough to take on a Yorkshire side who were thwarted by the weather last week. In the other match Derbyshire will go up against an unbeaten Glamorgan at Derby with the visitors looking to add to the one win that they have in the season to date.

Betting

I am very surprised that Coral can’t split Yorkshire and Durham because for my money Durham are a country mile ahead of anything in this division, not least a Yorkshire side who are playing with the off-field issues still attached to them and who this week will be without Dawid Malan as well as their England contingent. This is also a Yorkshire side who have won one match in the Championship all season, although rain has denied them a couple of others.

In contrast, Durham have only lost once this season which was when Sussex caught them cold in the opening week of the campaign. Since then they are unbeaten and look to be going from strength to strength and look very strong this week with Bas de Leede back in the fold as well as Matty Potts, Brydon Carse and Migael Pretorius making up a daunting seam attack with Matt Parkinson a competent spinner if it stays dry. Durham have a Division One top six at their disposal and if the weather plays ball on the coast I don’t see this strong Durham side losing.

Tips

Back Durham to beat Yorkshire for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with Coral
