Big Matches
All eyes will be on the opening match in Atlanta when Orlando City have Dom Dwyer in their side for the first time after his shock move from Sporting Kansas City. That is one of the three live matches in the UK with New York Red Bulls against Montreal Impact and Los Angeles Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders the other two. The latter one is a huge game in the Western Conference.
Best of the Rest
The leaders in the West, FC Dallas, look to maintain their advantage when they host Vancouver Whitecaps while the second placed side Sporting Kansas City face the Chicago Fire in a tasty looking clash. New England Revolution and Philadelphia Union both need to win their match in order to keep up in the Eastern Conference and the same thing applies to San Jose Earthquakes and Colorado Rapids in the West.
Betting
On a busy night of action I’m taking three bets on Saturday. The first of them comes in the opening game when I’m expecting to see goals between Atlanta United and Orlando City. Home matches for Atlanta are usually high scoring. Their last five have all been won by Atlanta with 4-1, 3-1, 3-1, 1-0 and 4-2.
Traditionally this season Orlando have been quite tight and defensive but you can’t sign a player like Dom Dwyer and keep playing that way. Indeed Dwyer and Cyle Larin should be one of the most potent strike forces in MLS. In what should be a more open game than when they met last weekend I like over 3 goals.
Another match I expect to see goals in is the one between the New York Red Bulls and Montreal Impact. It has taken a while but all of a sudden the Red Bulls have caught fire especially in attacking areas. They have won their last three and banged in 11 goals in the process and now they take on a Montreal side who are never short of goals themselves but who leak just as many. I like over 3 there too.
Another side who have lit up recently in the goalscoring department are Real Salt Lake. They have scored 11 in their last three and I expect them to pick up another win when they host Columbus Crew. The Crew not only played in midweek but they got thumped and had two men sent off so this will be a physical test for them as well as a naturally tough game. With all the travelling and missing personnel the Crew have to deal with I expect Real Salt Lake to win this.
