We continue to close in on the end of the regular season in the MLS and we do so with the majority of the league in action on Saturday evening on what could be a pivotal night for a number of sides.
There are 10 matches in total on Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday morning with two of them live on Sky for those of us who are in the UK. The rest of them are streamed in the usual places so we have plenty of access to them.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off time in brackets)
Orlando City vs FC Dallas (21.00)
Toronto FC vs New York Red Bulls (00.00)
Columbus Crew vs DC United (00.30)
New England Revolution vs Atlanta United (00.30)
Chicago Fire vs New York City (01.30)
Houston Dynamo vs Minnesota United (01.30)
Colorado Rapids vs Montreal Impact (02.00)

Big Matches
There are some huge matches on the card on Saturday night. The two TV matches for those of us in the UK are the ones between Toronto FC and New York Red Bulls as well as the real huge game of the night which is Sporting Kansas City against Vancouver Whitecaps in a battle which could decide the outcome of the Western Conference.
Best of the Rest
Two sides who really need to win to keep their play-off hopes alive are FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo and they head to Orlando City and host Minnesota United respectively. Real Salt Lake can all but sew up their postseason berth when they head to Los Angeles Galaxy while in the East the Columbus Crew can wrap things up for themselves when they go up against DC United while New England Revolution will be out for revenge when they face Atlanta United.
Betting
I’m going with three bets across this card. We begin with the first TV game where I’m expecting to see goals between Toronto FC and New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls really need to win to stave on any late charge behind them while Toronto FC probably need to stamp a marker down again after back-to-back defeats. The leaders will have Jozy Altidore back for the match and there is talk that Sebastian Giovinco will play too. The Red Bulls have their big players back so I’m expecting this to ignite nicely.
Another match which won’t need any petrol adding to it to get it going is the one between the New England Revolution and Atlanta United. New England were embarrassed 7-0 in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago so revenge will be on their minds while Atlanta could yet gatecrash the top two in the Eastern Conference. Just by the way these two sides play I’m expecting goals in this one but when you add in the spice created by their previous meeting I expect them even more.
Finally I can’t resist a go on the Portland Timbers at San Jose. San Jose have lost three of their last four matches and have conceded four goals on each occasion. The Timbers might not be the most reliable road side in the world these days but they score goals for fun and with Fanendo Adi looking like being back you would think they will have goals in them here too. It is a big match for the Timbers and I expect them to avoid defeat at the very least but with San Jose lacking motivation I fancy Portland to win the game.
