We have reached the penultimate weekend of the MLS regular season and from here on in every team in the league plays on the same day. The next round of fixtures takes place on Sunday across two kick off times.
We should be set for an excellent night of football across the two sets of kick off times with plenty to play for still for a number of the sides. There will be plenty of twists and turns as we head towards confirming the line up for the play-offs.
Sunday’s fixtures are as follows:
10pm UK time
Chicago Fire vs Philadelphia Union
New England Revolution vs New York City
New York Red Bulls vs Atlanta United
Orlando City vs Columbus Crew
Toronto FC vs Montreal Impact
12.30am UK time
Colorado Rapids vs Real Salt Lake
Los Angeles Galaxy vs Minnesota United
Portland Timbers vs DC United
Seattle Sounders vs FC Dallas

Big Matches
All eyes will be on the Western Conference on Sunday as the play-off places are up for grabs. Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders and Houston Dynamo will all secure their postseason spots with wins. Portland host DC United, Seattle host FC Dallas who need to win to keep their destiny in their own hands and Houston Dynamo head to Sporting Kansas City.
Best of the Rest
Toronto FC will receive the Supporters’ Shield on Sunday evening when they take on Montreal Impact. I suspect revenge will be on their mind. New York Red Bulls host Atlanta United in a match which should be appealing on the eye while Vancouver Whitecaps will secure the number one seeding in the West if they beat San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City fail to win.
Betting
I’m taking two bets on Sunday night with one coming in each kick off time. In the earlier matches I’m going for goals in the match between Toronto FC and Montreal Impact. Toronto FC get the Shield after this game and I’m sure they will want to do so in a party atmosphere so I expect them to give this one everything. They might be even more motivated to win with Montreal the only side to have won at BMO Field this season. Impact are playing for nothing so their dangerous players can play with freedom and be even more troublesome. The last time these two met Impact won 5-3. I expect to see more goals here.
Later in the evening I think the Portland Timbers will see off a DC United team who are a poor side overall. The Timbers are very good at home and they know with back-to-back wins they can yet seal a top two spot in the Western Conference to secure the bye and home advantage for much of the play-offs. DC United aren’t playing for a lot and I expect the much more motivated Portland side to do what they need to do to keep their hunt for the top two very much alive heading into next week.
