MLS 2017 – Sunday 6th August Matches Betting Preview

The MLS weekend concludes with three matches on Sunday evening with all of them live on Sky in the UK so we can put our feet up in front of the TV and watch six hours of the best that America’s top league has to offer.

There are three tasty matches on the cards too which will all impact on both Conference tables so we should be set for a really good night of football.

Portland Timbers vs Los Angeles Galaxy

The night begins with former champions Portland Timbers hosting fellow Western Conference club Los Angeles Galaxy. The Timbers can close in on top spot if they win this match while the Galaxy need to get a run going if they are to be competing in the postseason.

The form of both these sides leaves plenty to be desired. If I was pushed I would probably go with the Portland Timbers in this one especially given how good they usually are at home but even their home form has tailed off in recent weeks. I like watching Timbers’ matches but this is one to leave alone from a betting point of view.

New York City FC vs New York Red Bulls

The Hudson River derby takes place on the Bronx as New York City FC host their rivals New York Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium. The two sides go into the weekend in third and fourth in the Eastern Conference table so they could be laying a play-off marker down against each other.

Usually when these two meet we get extremely competitive games and I don’t expect this to be any different but with the form the Red Bulls have suddenly found I do think this could be quite high scoring.

The Red Bulls are utilising one of the weirdest formations I have ever seen but it is working for them while New York City are always a goal threat no matter what the opposition are doing tactically. Red Bulls famously won this fixture 7-0 last season. I don’t expect a repeat but I do see more than three goals.

Sporting Kansas City vs Atlanta United

The leaders of the Western Conference heading into the weekend in Sporting Kansas City take on a surging Atlanta United in what could turn out to be the match of the night despite the competition for that slot.

Kansas City had a great win over the Chicago Fire last weekend and will be looking to back that up here while Atlanta United are on a lengthy unbeaten run and are always tough to face on their travels so this really is set up nicely. I’m tempted by goals here but the departure of Dom Dwyer just sways me against that so I will sit this one out and enjoy what should be a belting match.
