A strange MLS weekend draws to a close on Sunday evening with the final two matches being played. The good news for those of us in the UK is that both of them are live on TV so we can put our feet up and enjoy what should be a good night of football.

Minnesota United vs Sporting Kansas City
This is a match which sees one of the worst sides in the Western Conference hosting one of the best and indeed if Sporting Kansas City avoid defeat in this match they will reclaim top spot in the table. A Minnesota win will see them onto the edge of the playoffs.
Minnesota started their expansion season terribly. They couldn’t defend and they were poor up front but they were starting to get something going prior to last weekend when they lost to San Jose. Sporting Kansas City showed all their quality in midweek but it won’t be easy for them to back up that performance.
Had Sporting KC not played in midweek I may well have chanced them in this match but they did and it is never easy to back up a big midweek performance in this league so I’ll sit the opener out.
New York City FC vs Atlanta United
The second half of the Sunday night double header comes from Yankee Stadium as New York City host Atlanta United in a big Eastern Conference clash. Both sides will make significant advances up the table with a win so this is a big game.
This one should be a good watch. Atlanta have a high pressing game against not the most mobile defence but generally when New York City are challenged they come out fighting and with the quality they have in attacking areas they will look to capitalise on any weakness in Atlanta defensively.
This looked the match of the weekend to me before it began and I think it will play out that way. I can see this being one of those crazy Yankee Stadium type matches and I expect plenty of goals in it. If the over three goals was any sort of price I would have taken that but sadly it isn’t so I’ll sit and watch what should be a good match.
