The MLS season gets underway on Saturday as many of the teams in the league play their first match in what is set up to be another exciting campaign across the pond. There are six matches in total on Saturday with all eyes being on the champions Toronto FC as they get their title defence underway.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off time in brackets)
Toronto FC vs Columbus Crew (18.00)
Houston Dynamo vs Atlanta United (20.30)
Philadelphia Union vs New England Revolution (00.00)
Orlando City vs DC United (00.30)
FC Dallas vs Real Salt Lake (01.00)
San Jose Earthquakes vs Minnesota United (03.30)
Big Matches
The big match is the first game of the campaign which is a re-run of the Eastern Conference final from last season as the champions Toronto FC play host to a Columbus Crew who will be motivated for revenge. All eyes will them be on Atlanta United to see if they can pick up a win when they head to Houston Dynamo.
Best of the Rest
There are a couple of matches in each Conference to enjoy heading into the early hours of Sunday morning with Philadelphia hosting Brad Friedel and the New England Revolution with Orlando City welcoming DC United to town. In the Western Conference FC Dallas take on Real Salt Lake while San Jose Earthquakes get their campaign underway against Minnesota United.

Betting
I’ll take two bets to get things going on Saturday. The first comes in Houston where two of the more attacking sides in the league meet when Houston Dynamo host Atlanta United. These two are two sides who like to get on the front foot and take the game to the opposition so there could be something of a shootout feel to this match. With their philosophies the way they are over 2.5 goals is definitely the way to go in this one.
San Jose Earthquakes finished last season really strongly and while it did them no good when it came to the play-offs it should have done wonders for their belief heading into this season. They are under new management here so will be eager to impress and I expect them to see off a Minnesota side who haven’t really found their identity in this league yet. Minnesota to San Jose is not the nicest journey in the world either so there is plenty in the favour of the home side, including my money.
