It might be the international week but that does not mean there is no midweek MLS action. Three matches from the competition takes place on Wednesday evening and it includes some fixtures that will have massive implications on the postseason.
Four sides who have their eyes on the ultimate glory beyond the regular season are in action on Wednesday evening on what can only can described as a pivotal night of football over in America.
Orlando City vs Seattle Sounders (00.30)
The action begins in Florida where the Orlando City side will be looking to play the role of party poopers when they take on a Seattle Sounders side who will be guaranteed to extend their season with a victory.
Orlando have been playing for nothing for a good month or so already and in truth they haven’t really done anything to suggest that they are up for any kind of challenge. Seattle Sounders should win this with plenty in hand but the difficulty comes in the form of the players they have away on international duty. I might still have chanced the Sounders but with Raul Ruidiaz and Nicolas Lodeiro away I’m happy to sit this one out.
DC United vs Toronto FC (00.30)
The big match of the night could well be the one from Audi Field where Wayne Rooney and his DC United side will do battle with the champions Toronto FC knowing a win will all but seal their postseason spot. Defeat will leave them needing a couple of wins to be certain of their spot with the best beyond the regular season.
I think DC United will continue their good recent form here. They are undefeated in seven matches and the only games they’ve not won in that time have been against the New York pair. Toronto FC now know their season is over from a competitive viewpoint and are missing a whole host of players on international duty and injury.
The reverse meeting between these two was a wonderful 4-4 draw in the match of the season. I expect things to be much more emphatic and comfortable for DC United in this one though. They can cover a 1.25 goal handicap against a severely weakened Toronto FC side.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs Sporting Kansas City (03.00)
The one Western Conference clash comes from Canada as the Vancouver Whitecaps look to get back into the top six in the table when they play host to a Sporting Kansas City side who know they will move into second place should they come away victorious.
The stakes are going to be high in this one but both sides are missing some big players to international duty and we can’t really get away from that. That all means there is a little too much guesswork for my liking so while I will take a watching brief on the match it won’t be a betting one.
