MLS 2018 – Wednesday 25th July Matches Betting Preview

There are five matches in this midweek round of fixtures in the MLS with the games being spread across two evenings. Three of them take place on Wednesday with the other two on Thursday and among them are a number of good looking matches.

The highlight of the first night of games is the latest match in the MLS adventure of Wayne Rooney but all three matches on the card look to have decent appeal about them. Unfortunately it is Thursday’s matches that are on TV in the UK so we’re reduced to the streams for these ones.

DC United vs New York Red Bulls (01.00)

The opening match of the night is an all-Eastern Conference clash between bottom of the pile DC United and third placed New York Red Bulls who will be looking to move up to second if they can find a win at Audi Field.

There is no doubt in my mind that DC United are going to end the season well. Whether they can close the gap to make the postseason I have my doubts because they are going to be flat out from here on in but if they can make Audi Field a fortress they will improve their position at least. New York Red Bulls have their eye on the title from here, or they should do at the very least.

I’m expecting to see goals here. The position that DC United are in there is no point in them shutting up shop and looking to contain. They can’t do that anyway. They are not cut out for that. New York Red Bulls have goals in them so I’m expecting over 3 to land in this one.

Houston Dynamo vs Philadelphia Union (02.00)

The one cross-Conference clash on Wednesday evening sees the entertaining Houston Dynamo hosting a Philadelphia Union side who are on the fringes of the play-offs in the East but can’t quite put successive wins together to move into the top six. A win here would do them no harm.

It is a surprise to me that Houston Dynamo have slipped out of the top six in the West because there aren’t six better sides than them in that Conference but they have a couple of games in hand on Real Salt Lake, this being the first of them, and will move into the final postseason spot with a victory here.

This is another match in which I’m expecting to see goals. Both teams are infinity better going forward than they are in defensive areas and the need to win for both of them is fairly obvious. This is another match where I expect over 3 goals to land safely.

San Jose Earthquakes vs Seattle Sounders (03.30)

The only Western Conference clash on the evening sees two of the bottom three meet when San Jose Earthquakes host the Seattle Sounders in a match which sees two underachieving sides going at it.

I would imagine when the campaign begun most would have expected both these sides to have been in the mix for the postseason but here we are 10-12 games out and already neither have much of a chance of being involved in it. Admittedly Seattle are finally finding their form albeit a little late, so this one has the feel of a bit of a dead rubber about it. I’m happy to sit this one out.
