After a couple of weeks off for a mid-season break, with the exception of a few US Open Cup clashes, the MLS is back on Saturday night as we get up for what should be a competitive and entertaining second half of the campaign.
Players remain away at the Gold Cup so whether the quality will be as good initially remains to be seen but we have an intriguing looking card with a couple of matches live on TV for those of us in the UK. The rest remain on the many streams available.
Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (UK kick off in brackets)
FC Cincinnati vs LA Galaxy (00.30)
Chicago Fire v Real Salt Lake (01.00)
FC Dallas v Toronto FC (01.00)
Vancouver Whitecaps FC v Colorado Rapids (03.00)
Portland Timbers v Houston Dynamo (04.00)
Big Matches
The two TV matches on Saturday evening, or more the early hours on Sunday morning as they actually are, bookends the action as the first live game will see Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his LA Galaxy teammates taking on FC Cincinnati in a match they are expected to win comfortably. The other live match is the Western Conference clash between the Portland Timbers and the Houston Dynamo which should actually be a good game for any insomniacs around.
The Rest
Chicago Fire will look to continue their good home record this season when they welcome the Real Salt Lake to town while FC Dallas and Toronto FC will both be looking to get their campaigns back on track when they meet each other. The other match sees statistically the two worst teams in the Western Conference doing battle when the Vancouver Whitecaps take on the Colorado Rapids in a match which could go a way to deciding the outcome of the wooden spoon in that part of the competition.
Betting
It is going to be hard to find bets in this division while all the players remain away on international duty but there is one where one team aren’t as disadvantaged as another and as a result that is the match I’m going to bet in. It comes in the final match of the night where the Portland Timbers play host to the Houston Dynamo at Providence Park.
Portland had an excellent win in the US Open Cup in midweek which kind of highlighted what I was saying about them not being hit too much with injury call ups. By and large it is a couple of fringe players they are without but encouragingly Brian Fernandez is available. Houston Dynamo will be missing Romell Quioto and Alberth Elis who are on international duty as are a couple of defenders so being away from home without some key players is going to be a tough ask for the Dynamo. With that being said I’ll take Portland to cover a 0.75 line here.
